The clutch pedal in my 97 corsa seemed to rise today. The car has seemed a bit sluggish of late. How concerned should I be?

Very. Get it plugged into diagnostic software. Whats it idle like? Rough? Is it the 3 cylinder 1.0?

Does it crunch when shifting? Hows the 800rpm idle? Vibration/shaking/smoke?

Get her in for a check up. Sounds like you may need a new clutch. It's a 12yr old car though so I'd tend to keep driving it until it dies a repair may be uneconomical. I don't see how your worn clutch would leave you down on power though unless it's obviously slipping between gears.

I dont think Id bother putting a new clutch in a 97 Corsa. You could buy a newer better car for about the same cost or only a small bit more. Weigh it up before you spend money.

Yeah, it's something to think about. The car only cost me €200 so don't want to spend too much getting it fixed

I took the car to a mechanic today.... Turns out it was a quick fix. The clutch cable had become loose.

The burning smell could've been anything. Anyway two hours later my car was fixed and serviced (which was well needed). And wasn't anywhere near as expensive as i feared!

    Thank god!
