Peugeot 407

Just to tell you all a story of some dealings I had with Peugeot Ireland. I own a 2006 Peugeot 407 - 1.6 Diesel - bought about 18 months ago from a private garage (not a Peugeot Dealership). About 2 weeks ago the car lost all power so I took it to the dealer where I normally get it serviced. They told me it had an engine problem and that the timing belt and kit had to be replaced.
I was pretty horrified at this because there is only 43,000 miles on the clock. Anyway the whole job cost me just under €900. I asked about a warranty on the engine and they told me that it was out of date by about 11 months so I would have to pay it all myself.

I rand a couple of garages and a couple of peugeot dealerships and they all told me the same thing - that the timing belt should not have to be done until 92,000 miles and i some cases its even left longer. I got back on to Peugeot Ireland and said this to them but they still wouldn't budge. One of the garages I rang when asking about the problem said they had never heard of this happening before but because of the recession, Peugeot Ireland were refusing to pay for a lot ofwork that they would have paid for a couple of years ago.

Anyway I intend fighting them a bit more but this is more of a warning to everyone.
Has anyone else had any similiar problems with car companies and if so how did it work out. I have to say while the money was a big sting, this isn't my main issue for fighting them. I believe we all spend fairly big money on cars and its totally unacceptable that companies can walk away from problem like this, especially when the mileage is so low.
Looking forward to hearing all your thoughts

Did you have the car repaired by a Peugeot dealership?

The car is 3 years old, has a (presumably) non-Peugeot service history and the warranty is well over as well ...what do you expect?

I would advise you (in your own interest) to take this matter to a solicitor and not discuss it publicly
