    Hi guys,

I was wondering if you could give me some resources and tips (online software, courses either online or offline, tools etc - doesn't matter if I have to pay for them) for SEO techniques and Internet Marketing.

I am computer literate and have an avid interest in computers/online marketing and I'm also a fast learner so any tips/suggestions would be great.

    Cheers

I'd suggest forgetting about courses, they're often out-of-date due to the changing nature of the medium.

You could start by looking at some of these blogs:
    http://www.dailyblogtips.com/top-25-seo-blogs/

Avoid any 'magic' solutions, they don't work in the long run. Concentrate on having a well put together site with well constructed pages, with good audience and keyword oriented content which gets updated and build quality organic links to your site. That's the very rough bare bones. Check the above to find your own way.

Internet maketing is not all that to be honest. All you need is a good understanding of SEO, Analytics, indexing pages on the main search engineens. There is a bit more to it but thats a good start.

http://www.google.com/analytics/ - if you have a site that you can test and have access to online then set up an Analytics account and also a Webmaster Tools account. You will need the ability to put code into the body of pages and also to generate an id html file with the name given to you by goggle web tools. You can also submit your url for index on google. You should have a good look at the site map article as a sitemap if right can boost your page rating.

    https://adwords.google.com - pretty self explanatory

http://oyoy.eu/ - this site has a good clatter of tools that enable you to test you site for i.e. broken links, there is a keyword generator and load more.

Oh ya you should also download a copy of G-SITE Crawler---> http://gsitecrawler.com/ handy tool to see how your site is viewed by search engineens...

    Hope this all helps..

I would suggest that you could also try ask these questions at the Irish Web Master's forums - you do get a lot more web-heads there. Just an idea - I am suggesting you use both forums.

great way to boost ranking is mass submission of video clips

include link to your site obviously and make content relevant - eg my typical customers biggest problem is this, and heres what to do.

This is a handy free java app that allows you to explore how sites relate to each other for a key phrase or enter a url and see who links to that site and where it links in an easy to understand graphical way.

try it out at - http://www.touchgraph.com/TGGoogleBrowser.html

Sorry Gary, there are 2 things wrong with what you said.

    1. mass submission of anything is not good, you should only build backlinks at a rate of 5 per day

    2. if you are on about submitting to youtube, youtube links are NoFollow

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 387 ✭✭link8r

I dont think that the backlink building limit of 5 per day is in any way founded - I would guess that links to Microsoft are built at a rate of 5 an hour or even a minute!

The key here is to avoid spam, duplicate content. Provide rich, unique content in as many formats as possible. Many sites, like Yahoo Events and YouTube have nofollow tags to cut-down on spam - but the marketing/traffic building reason still exists.
