    hey,

I'm doin some work on the presentation and design of the Irish Independent for college and I'm having some trouble getting information on previous styles of the newspaper.
Does anybody know where I can get some information on it without actually contacting the paper?

The National Archives have back issues of it on microfilm. You'd want to call them to arrange getting access to it. Not sure how close to the present day their collection is, but should be enough material there for you. You may have to get some sort of letter from a senior lecturer to get permission to go in there. Depending on what college you go to, your library may have something similar if you ask them.

Sorry, meant the National Library! That's the one on Kildare St. They have it on microfilm. Easier to get in there than the National Archives, but you'll still need to arrange access with them.

It's next to the Dail. If it's a college project you are doing, your university library probably has its own microfilm copies, which should be much easier to get at.

Why won't you go straight to the paper?
Or try to meet with previous editor, Vinny Doyle who editor the Indo for nigh on 25 years.
Current editor Gerry O'Regan worked as a news reporter there in the 80s and as far as I can remember compiled a style book.
Give him a buzz. All he can say is no.
