    Folks

Anybody doing or done the Malahide Castle 5km that's on this Sunday?

I'm doing it- first time ever to do any race or anything like that.
Just wondering what the course is like?
    Flat/hilly?
    On grass or footpaths?

I signed up to do it last week as a way of getting myself of my rearend in the evenings but am not really that fit. I can do about 3.5km jogging but the last mile will be hard for me.
    Any advice?

    Thanks

I'm doing the race on Sunday too. Not sure of the exact route but Malahide Castle grounds is a good place to run. Its pretty flat with only a couple of very gentle inclines/declines. Think the course will be a mix of tarmac paths and hard pack trail.

Enjoy the race. It's your first one so once you finish you'll have a PB under your belt :) . Pace yourself and you'll be fine - the extra buzz of running in a group might make you want to run faster at the start but if you start off running within yourself you'll do fine. Good luck!

    Thanks for the good wishes
I'm hoping to finish "running/jogging" and not walking- I ran cross country a few times when I was in school and I remember the melee at the beginning. I intend totally to go at my own pace and could be so stubborn that I'll end up going too slow as a result.

Just back in the door after doing 2 miles this evening- was really windy. My lower back gets really stiff which is the biggest thing that bothers me, I had to stop halfway through to try and stretch it out....

Thanks for telling me about this race, didn't see details elsewhere. Wonderful weather & well organised. Does anyone know when & where the results will be posted?

I think they will be up on runireland site once they are finalised - either that or keep an eye on the PiranhaTri.com site.

I did this race today and im delighted!!! it was my first time doing one and im normally a couch potato.. i trained for the past 4 or 5 weeks jogging between 2 and 3k about 3 times a week.. i completed today in 26 or 27 mins and was very happy with that because i didnt stop once and didnt have to walk any of it.. so i scored my own little personal goal to complete it fully.. thanks to the organizers for a great day.. there was 6 of us in total and today got the thumbs up from all of us :D

Great day out, seemed well organised but I've nothing to compare to- first timer in all senses of the word.
Had only run 3x2 mile sessions as training so was absolutely delighted to finish- like Heathen I didn't stop or walk so was very happy. Finished in 31 and a half mins so wasn't last which was my other goal.
2 small gripes: there were no distance markers so I had no clue how far I had gone and I knew nobody at the event so didn't have any chat afterwards which would have been nice.
I was on a high for all of yesterday with the good endorphins running through my veins and the sense of actually achieving something

    Heathen
That seems like a solid time for only a few weeks training, my goal is to get around 28 min next time out, have signed up for a 5k in Athlone 3 weeks or so.

Congrats and well done to Heathen and W.B. Yeats.

It seems you both have gotten the bug!

W.B. next race just simply take the initiave yourself and chat to the other runners. You'll find we are a friendly bunch!

Good running there, that your first step and not a bad start at all with only a few weeks running. Set yourself a few short term and long term goals and you will love it. I did this race last year in 30 mins myself you will be amazed what you would be capable of doing in a years time even a few months and you will take a huge amount of time off that.

    all the best.,
