United Airways or Continental?

I was looking at flights to west coast USA for October and can get it for around the same price with United through London or Continental through Newark.
Both flight times are similar enough.
Which would anyone prefer? United use Boeing 777 and Continental use Boeing 757 and 737 within USA.

Which would be a more pleasant experience in terms of reliability, food, entertainment etc?

    Cheers,

    P

Well, the option of stabbing yourself in the face repeatedly with a plastic fork is probably more pleasant than either.

    Least worst? United.

United, had a friend pond hop back to Ireland with Continental in a 757 and she was not impressed one bit, id go with United and a 777.

I would rather Swim and walk than fly Continental.

I have no idea what either airline is like for TA travel but maybe it would be worth looking into doing the internal flight with Jetblue.

I travelled from Washington DC to San Francisco with them last year (6 hour flight) and it was the most comfortable flight I was ever on. And I have travelled on a lot of airlines within the US.

UNITED all the way if it,s a B777 i flew from LHR-EZE non stop tis was grand,

    Lucy Lu,

Mentioned Jet blue there in partnership with Aerfungus so it could be possible to get a flight from DUB to JFK/BOS and then get a connx to the west coast.

thats providing you can fly out of DUB? and if so i would definately go with EI it would save you $$$ having to get a feeder flight into the UK.(and hassle of security gestapo)

Continental are not bad, but for a 757 on the ocean is a bit cramped, go for united if its a 777

    Deffo United (or Ted)

I too would choose United over and above Continental. No contest.

dublin to newark is only 5 or 6 hours, i have sat on the M50 for longer

    Did your car break down?!

I'd go with United OP, less hassle in changing planes and stuff.

    Thanks all.

The United flight seems to involve a change in LHR and either DFW or SFO.
Continental is one change in Newark.

United seems to be recommended as most pleasant but I suppose it'll have to be whatever fits in with our plans. Considering a few days stopover in New York on the way home so that may mean it has to be Continental...

    +1 to that idea.

Jet Blue's has a 34"-38" seat pitch compared to United's 31"-34" seat pitch. On a 4-5 hour transcontinential flight that extra legroom would make the flight a lot more comfortable.
