VRT documentation query

I've bought a used car in NI and I'll be picking it up on Saturday, and bringing it to the VRO on Monday. The Revenue website is a little vague about the documentation involved in that they say they require the
the foreign Registration Book/Certificate or Export Certificate from the foreign licensing authority
(that's fair enough, I'll have the full V5 from the dealer), but also they need
Documentation (as approved by the Revenue Commissioners) confirming the level of CO2 emissions of the vehicle at the time of manufacture
    .

I have a copy of the V5 from the car (will be getting the original when I pick up the car), and the CO2 emissions are stated clearly on the V5, so can I assume that the V5 and the completed VRT4 along with my ID (and payment) are all that I will need to register the car i.e. I do not need another separate document detailling the CO2?

Also, when the car is registered, what documentation will I be given? The VLC is now defunct from what I gather, so I get a Vehicle Registration Certificate but only after I've paid my road tax. What document will I get to pay the road tax, will they give me an RF100?

    Thanks for the help!

You're right, all you need is the V5 with the CO2 figure on it. You'll get a form RF100 to tax the car online, when you've done that the VLC will be posted to you.

Great, I can do the tax online? Even for a new reg? I thought only renewals could be done online. Would save me hassle though if I could get the first tax online.

Just being curious here but did you save much money buying outside the country ? Did you try dealers here ?

You can do first tax online with the RF100, i've done it myself.

I guess it depends on what you buy, the more you spend the more you save I reckon. I just couldn't have bought here what I'm getting for near the price. I reckon I've saved a few thousand off a similar car (mileage/spec/condition) compared with what they're going for here. The good exchange rate at the moment is helping of course.

Didn't try dealers here this time as the kinds of places I would buy a car were just off the scale with their asking prices. Even with hefty discounts, they wouldn't have come close.

Only downside is having to sell your existing car, but to be honest, I'd always sell my cars privately now (having done it a couple of times) even if buying from a garage in the Republic. Cash buyers get better deals.

I hear what you're sayin bud, but how in the dickens do you sell a car privately now, nobody's buying. Drive it into a wall I say ;)
