Finally, after 4 feckin years, Doves are back!
    Track listing

    1. "Jetstream" – 5:30
    2. "Kingdom of Rust" – 5:11
    3. "The Outsiders" – 3:28
    4. "Winter Hill" – 5:18
    5. "10:03" – 4:04
    6. "The Greatest Denier" – 3:57
    7. "Birds Flew Backwards" – 2:51
    8. "Spellbound" – 5:40
    9. "Compulsion" – 5:14
    10. "House of Mirrors" – 4:17
    11. "Lifelines" – 4:24

At first listen it is very, very promising and seems to have been worth the wait.

Will post more on individual songs after a few more plays, but "The Outsiders" is already a winner for me.

I've listened through it once - its a pretty damn good album. I think the second half is stronger than the first half, and I really like The Greatest Denier.

10.03, House of Mirrors & Lifelines so far i reckon.. don't know if it will ever live up to the brilliance of The last broadcast but judgement withheld for now

Gave it a listen, not bad at all.....really like the first track Jetstream, which reminded me of New Order, which is funny cos they also have a song by that name.

After a few listens its excellent

Last three tracks are the highlights for me :)

Just thinking to myself I need a new album and i said i'll see if boards could offer up anything for me and there you are Xavi like a beacon of light.

Well I love the album but because its a little bit eclectic and radio un-friendly (which is fine by me) it probably wont sell very well or get the credit it deserves....when you consider some of the bland elevator music thats out there at the moment, this stands out for me bigtime.

A great album by a great band. :)

One of my favourite bands. Definitely one of the most underrated bands around. For someone who said their last album 'Some Cities' wasn't that good, give it another chance. 'Walk on Fire', 'The Storm', B&W Town, 'Snowden', 'Shadows of Salford' all amazing songs.

Gave the new stuff a listen, all sounds good, can't wait to get the album next week.

Who needs a Stone Roses reunion when these boys are still making records like this.:D

Loving the album, 'House of Mirrors', '10.03', 'Jetstream', 'Spellbound' and of course 'Kingdom of Rust' all stand out tracks.

Just got the album in the post yesterday. Standouts so far for me are Winter Hill, Jetstream, Kingdom Of Rust and The Greatest Denier.
I think it's going to take a few more listens before it really grabs me, but I do like it a lot.
And Cozziej you might want to edit your post a little, check the charter :)

Iv always found it to be that way with Doves albums.
Iv never been bowled over on the first couple of listens but the songs just seem to make more and more of an impression with each listen.

Love the album. 'Jetstream' is def my favorite. Have listened to it a shameful amount of times since getting the album.

They were class on Later with Jools Holland on tues.

Well it's all positive here and the broadsheets.

I think that a lot of the songs sound very, very like other songs of theirs and I'm overall disappointed in it.
I was expecting something fresher. A new outlook, a different twist. This is very bland when juxtaposed with their previous work. Not because it's of a lesser standard but because it's so alike earlier work.

I know where you're coming from too Scien and I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and on first full listen of the album. Then after half catching '...rust' on the radio I was left singing 'Pounding'. It the same song. Then I went back to album and thought oooohhh. I've been sold a pup that does much the same tricks that Manic Street Preachers have been doing forever...the same songs.
    Maybe my ears need cleaning.

'Kingdom of Rust' sounds like 'Pounding'? Really?

    Don't hear it personally.

Found this album very disappointing. It dies on it's arse after the first two songs andbecomes boring and predictable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,598 ✭✭✭cashback

Well this album has definitely grown on me, was a little unsure at first.
Really like almost all tracks. Maybe the only ones I'm a bit iffy toward are Birds flew backwards and Lifelines.
I really like Compulsion even if most reviewers are not crazy about it and describe it as a bad Blondie homage.
Might never surpass The Last Broadcast for me but it's still damn good.

Fantastic album. Its definitely an album you have to leave grow in you. There songs that'll jump out at you straight away "Kingdom of Rust", "Jetstream" (been humming this since the first time i heard it), "Winter Hill" and "House of Mirrors". The others take a bit longer but i really dont think there's a standout bad track on it.

I can see why people mightnt like "Birds Fly Backwards" but i think its a nice change of pace on the album. Decent song too.

It's very much a Doves album but they do like to experiment with there songs and sound with touches of electronic, psychedelic and other sound affects to give the songs their own feel. Don't get how Pounding and Rust are similar. Rust is a far better song imo. I would say it would be more in line with Fear with a soft country feel at the start. One of my favourite Does tracks tbh.

I love 10:03 when it kicks in, great song. The Outsiders would probably be my favourite track. Really good album, great band. The gig at the Olympia last week was brilliant.

Got my ticket for the Perth gig on August 1 :D

Saw Biffy Clyro in the same venue back in March. It's just a pub and there'll be about 300 people at it. You're pretty much on top of the band if at the front. Fantastic stuff.
