Hello, went in the above earlier looking for a good commuter bike. Was intent on getting the Giant FCR 2 but was pushed towards the Lapierre RCR 300 straight away. I've being doing my research on them and it seems they're very similar. Do you think there's any reason Lapierre are being pushed or is it just extra commission for the sales lad?

Also is it worth my while spending about 700 on a bike when I could get a reasonably good one for 500 (giant fcr 4). Just using it for going to college. 20 mile round trip but over some harsh roads between Blanchardstown and Castleknock.

Cyclesuperstore I have found tend to push LaPierre's quite hard as they are the main dealer (possibly only one) down here. They are fantastic bikes however -, the the RCR300 is a perfect commuting bike.

Most folk on here will tell you to spend what you can on the bike, as you will get a better steed for the extra 200 (with things like a carbon fork that reduces weight and road vibration a bit), and better gears (that will stay true for longer)

The FCR has slightly higher gearing, so you will be able to slightly faster in the top gears (52-12 vs 50-13). The FCR is also slightly lighter.
The RCR has slightly better derailleurs.
I'd probably take the FCR, and put the 50 euro difference into a decent lock - both bikes are so light they just sometimes float off into the ether.

Thanks for the replies lads. I just thought they might have been pushing for extra commission. Gonna go try bought out at the weekend, see what I prefer

They give a loyalty discount of 10% to all regular customers but if you ask for it even on your first purchase they will give it to you. Im sure its probably built into the price already.

Make sure to ask/demand it tho as they wont offer it.

Cycle superstore are the main importers/wholesalers for lapierre bikes in Ireland They will be making about 30% more out of lapierre than giant, every lapierre sold in Ireland has to go through superstore first

I had the same conundrum but went for the FCR1.. A little pricey but an excellent buy..

I like the Lapierre brand. A mate of mine has an RCR500 like Dub Skav and its a really nice looking bike. It's pretty much a case of whichever looks better to you. They both offer similar enough packages, but Ken is right and whatever you choose a Decent lock (~70 euro) is essential.

I have a Kryptonite New York like a lot of people here, great lock, brutally heavy so I leave it in college.
