I know a lot of people are giving out about crime/politics in ireland, but you have to pity the poor sods living in the mickey mouse countries around the world.

At least 40 bus drivers and their assistants have been murdered so far this year in Guatemala. And its only march.

Turf wars between the cartels and battles with law enforcement killed more than 6,000 people in Mexico last year

and thats just 2 from south american,i did'nt ever surf any stories on africa. Also i saw a story about Italy deploying troops to deal with the cammora.

I'am sure we could all find more if we looked.

Some will argue population sizes are different, but considering what goes on in the world,i think we're lucky we live in Ireland.

So instead of negative things all the time, what good things can we say about Ireland?.

Actually that Drug wars thing is constantly on the news, since its making its way up the border, its only a matter of time when small towns in the USA get over run by the drug gangs

That's already happenening. Phoenix Arizona has one of the highest incidents of kidnapping in the world thanks to the Mexican drug gangs.

Columbia went to **** after Pablo Escobar was killed too. He used dictate who was to be killed and that's it, very few other murder's besides his. (Relatively speaking of course) Now look at it!!!

Warm weather makes people do crazy things. I'd much rather be standing in the rain complaing about Biffo than standing in the sun waiting to be shot

Saying 'Well at least Ireland is better than Basketcase, Banana Republic A' is ridiculous. The problem is that some people here accept things and say....

'Ah sure, It'll do. I mean we have crime and corruption here. But jaysus, look at El Salvador. At least we're better than them!'

We should be aiming to compete with the best, not the worst!

About this drug war in Mexico, apparently not just limited to Mexico. But it is out of hand. El Presidente has fallen back on Martial Law to handle what are becoming almost identical to Insurgents. The only difference being they are motivated by profit, not religion. Its widespread organised crime and from reports, reaches as far into the United States as Anchorage, Alaska. Its been doing the rounds on the news, to say the least.

Good things about Ireland: crisp fresh air, lush green landscape, and when its warm out, you'd swear the cold war had ended all over again - people come out of their doors, theres parties on the streets, strangers hug eachother....what beautiful madness these folk make.

Just spent the last two weeks travelling around Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Clare with two French friends. Despite having travelled and worked all over Asia, Africa and S. America, they had never been to Ireland before. They absolutely loved it! The food (which, being French, they admitted was their major worry before arriving) the music, the scenery but above all, the people. They couldn't get over the friendliness and good humour of everyone they encountered.
