    Hi
My friend is from Romania. She came to Ireland in Jan 2008 and since May 2008 she is working as a cleaner for one of the cleaning companies in Dublin. When she started work with this company she didn't receive a contract (still doesn't have it) and she never was asked for a work permit. She doesn't know if the company applied for a work permit for her with the day she has started work with them. She is afraid that she may lose a job if she ask them about this two things.

Another thing is that she doesn't know if she works on full time or a part time cuz until last month she was working like 40 hours a week and now she just have 24 hours and "she doesn't have a contract to check that".

Can u tell us what she should do - to call the company and ask for the contract and this work permit or not or to do sth else?

There is lots of romanian people working for the same company without a contract and they don't have work permit as well. I don't understand this... Can somebody try to explain this if this is ok...?

If she doesn't know about the work permit there's a good chance she's getting paid under the table.

    Does she get a payslip?

Yes, she gets payslip every 2 weeks, she also received P60 for the last year and now she is paying 1% levy too.

But how does she have a PPS number if she never got a work permit?
