Log Homes - Good or Bad

    Hey,

    Im thinking about buying some land and erecting a log home........hopefully be cheaper than a semi D in South Dublin!!! any pointers / advice appreciated.

    I was looking into this for some time a few years ago, specifically from a company called artichouse (finish company). they have some nice designs, but in the end I didn't go ahead with it.

    It would appear you can get a very decent log cabin for about 70k, but there are lots of extras on top you need to account for: services, sewerage, heating. I was also told that planning permission for log cabins is quite difficult to get.

    That's Ireland for ya, sure we wouldn't want those natural wooden homes that blend into the environment popping up all over the place....they hardly cost anything either...that won't do!

    Thanks guys....iv checked out a good few companies here in Ireland and abroad. Typically.....the ones in Ireland are roughly 40% dearer in some cases, compared to the same design abroad! Plus, to get them erected it almost costs the same for the log home. They are fantastic lookin tho!!

    Just one problem, any land that I can afford, is zoned as agricultural, :mad::mad:

    i better keep doing the Euromillions! :P
