So how fast can YOU run a mile?

Every runner, from top international athletes to the occasional jogger, lives and breathes miles.
How many did you do yesterday, what was the average speed, what do you do each week.

The 1 mile race has been a classic distance for years, yet you don't get too many chances to RACE a mile and find out your real PB.

So it's time to put that right.

The Magic Mile Meet is a graded mile meet, which means you run against people of similar ability. We'll have 4-6 different races [depending on numbers] and people will be allocated a grade based on a past race.

No need to worry about being lapped!

All going well, this will become a regular meet held a few times yearly, so you can gauge your improvement [hopefully :-) ] over time.

    Date is Thursday April 16th
Venue is Dangan Track, Regional Sports Centre, Galway

    Spread the word!

If the distance is just too short [or even too long!] for anybody, and you can lend a hand, just let me know.

See you all on the night,

    Regards
    Alan

Hey Alan, apologies in advance for diverting your thread but hey, you get a bump!

I won't be able to make the Magic Mile meet in Galway. Are any Dublin/Wicklow/Meath clubs organising something similar?

I like the idea of the graded meet. I've never run as fast as I can for a short distance and it would be a bit distressing to kill yourself to finish in 5:20 when 10 other fellas are doing it in 4:20 and leave you at the start line. (not sure if either of those times are realistic)

Just out of interest what would Grades A to F look like time-wise?

There is the Dublin graded leagues that might be ok for you , I've been checking out the 1500m time and about 5:20 would have you in a fight for last..

Sounds like a good event in galway maybe i'll get sent there for work that week if possible :)

I plan to assign grades based on PB for the mile - calculated for most people on McMillians tables based on 5km or 10km PB.
    Grade A = Mile PB < 5:00
    Grade B = Mile PB < 6:00
    ...
    Grade F = Mile PB < 10:00

I'm guessing most people with be Grades B & C, so I may split people into B1 [<5:30] and B2 [<6:00] if numbers dictate.
I'll merge grades for a race if needs be - but hopefully we'll get numbers for one race at each grade.

Its the first time we've run it, so we'll have to be flexible and quick thinking :-)
