Isn't the F22 getting old now? Surely the F35A/B are a helluva lot better?

The first delivery of F22s was only 3 years ago. F35s - which still are testing - were devised as a cheaper solution to the very expensive, top of the line F22.

The test pilot died in the crash, he was a contract pilot for Lockheed and a 21 year veteran in the USAF.

The F-22s of the production standard have been in testing since 1997 and still are to this day.

The first F-22s delivered to a combat squadron was in 2005 and it was declared combat ready in 2007.

The F-22 is better than the F-35 in a number of areas and always will be, the F-35 will be better in others. In general the F-22 has better performance, agility and stealth while the F-35 has better endurance and avionics systems.

The F-22 was designed as an air dominance fighter with some ground attack ability while the F-35 is a multi role fighter leaning more towards ground attack missions.

The F15 development began in the late 60's as the F22 began service recently I think they will be planning to keep it as long as possible.

The F15 is planned to be kept for much longer already

If the B-52 is kept in service as long as is planned, it'll last longer than most people born at it's maiden flight.
