    Hey,

I'm having a problem with my Sony laptop! the CD/DVD drive seems to have stopped working altogether! When I used to put a disc in it would automatically load up! Now nothing happens! Even if i go into My Computer the drive doesnt show up!

    Any help?

    Thanks

I had a similar problem with my Toshiba laptop about a month ago. The solution to my problem was to essentially "start from the beginning" with the laptop i.e. copy all files on harddrive onto an external harddrive, and then run the Product Recovery DVD-Rom which came with the laptop - this basically re-formats the laptop, so be warned that all files and software will be permanently removed from the harddrive - thats why the external harddrive comes in handy.

    Hope this sorts you out.

MANY toshibas now, have a built in os restore recovery in the start up menu, press f11 ,sumthing like that or in start, programs ,toshiba apps.BETTER to
backup a mp3s,photos,game save files, before you restore.IS the cd dvd visible in the device manager,or my computer ,coud be cd lens needs cleaning, get dvd/cd lens cleaning it in a 2euro shop.i have an older 1.5ghz toshiba which uses recovery cds,it formats drive c and then installs windows xp.Or try winxp system restore to go back 2 months to when dvd was reading cds.most recent toshibas have a restore app on the hardrive.
