Leylandii, removing.

Just dug up a 6 foot, 15yr. old leylandii. Took an hour or so. Cut it down last week and just had a foot above ground stump to remove. I've removed it. Is it essential to dig up all the out shoot roots, how do you say it? Roots that have been snipped off and radiate out a few square feet. As I say, I have the main stump and root ball out. Had to dig about two feet down.
Will the remaining roots shoot up again or am I safe?

Six foot was short for a fifteen year old Leylandii!
I have never seen them re-sprout from the few left over roots in the soil, so you are ok.
You may get one or two mushrooms popping up though as the roots degrade.

It's part of a 40 foot hedge. Removing three to plant veg along a wall. I just them that height.
Thanks for the confirmation that the won't grow, or shouldn't.
