Anyone know where to get parts for an old Bamford BL 58 baler. I need a set of needles and no joy anywhere.

    Thanks

try sylvan over in kells if he hasnt got them he might be able to get them for you, john canaty is the mans name overthere, between kells and carnaross

no luck in Johnsons in longford then? I know a few people with bamfords scrapped, so I'll keep an eye out, although the needles and feeder arm gearbox, are always the first to be stripped from a machine for parts.

try mc guinness on the way to sligo either he might put you in the right direction for needles, he is between castlebaldwin and collooney up on the hill on the right along the n4

No luck with Johnsons or Deerings, Conarty unlikely mostly tractors he does. Tried Cathal in Clonmellon too. Few balers around lying up but obviously noone will sell needles as baler is useless without them. Wonder if you'd be able to get them cast.

If you have ones that are broken it is possible to get them welded, I got one of mine welded and it worked ok till I got the new ones. I would look at needles from a few other balers, that might be similar, I know jones balers are the same needles as a bamford, not that one of thoses is easy to come accross. wonder how much of a diffenence is there between needles from class, john deere, MF, newholland or welger

You could try these boys, I know there in sussex, but I see they are breaking a 159 and a few other Bamfords.

I have both, they broke at the same time. Didn't think welding cast iron would work out too well. Baler hasn't been used in about 3 yrs now so just want to get it back going. E-mailed a couple of crowds in UK but no luck. if all goes to all I might see if I could make.

there are special rods for arc welding cast iron. Its never going to be as strong as the original but It will work if its welded straight, although it does require a good bit of skill, as its easy to make a cock up welding cast.

I might be able to come accross one welded needle if your interested, it'll be saturday before I know though.

They are called 29.9 welding rods.

It is a good idea to gradually heat the whole part before you start welding and allow it to cool very slowly

I'll see if I can get new ones before welding, don't want to go to the bother of welding and re-fitting just to have them break again.
