    I'm new to this portal and currently have an ad running that I'd like to take off.

    First step is to contact the ads moderator but I think that ads aren't usually removed for some reason or other.

    Do you mean an advert (banner/Google ad) or a personal/classified advert you placed on www.adverts.ie?
