Asking Price V Actual Price

Going to see a car tonight. The asking price is €10000. I dont want to pay the full asking price as I dont think its worth that much. Just wondering how much of a mark up is a dealer likely to put on?

I'd be willing to offer €9000 (possible) or €9500 with a trade in. How hungry are the dealers for the money these days?

Very hungry! What kind of car is it? We might be able to give you a price guideline.

Depends on multiple factors, how much they took it in for, popularity of the model, price of others the same.

    What you looking at? Link?

2005 Saab 93 1.9 TDI. Dealer says its the linear model. Don't have a link now. posting from a phone

Linear is the basic model, it is more than likely the 120bhp model. I'll check UK prices inc. VRT and get back to you.

A quick search found 2005 9-3 Linear 1.9 TiD for around £4500-5000 plus VRT of €2500. So around €7500-8000. Most UK models were 150 Bhp. I was looking at these cars before and would go for the Vector 150 Bhp.

Its less than €9k based on models up the north. That's why I don't think its worth €10k. A vector is a little over €9k

Are there any similar cars online? How are they priced compared to it?

Most adds dont have the correct information to judge. Ie its hard to tell if its a vector arc linear etc.

If I could get one I'd go for te 175 BHP Vector Sport. Rare here more in England

One thing that turned me off the Saab TiD was the fact that I was paying big money for a Fiat engine in a fancy frock!

2005 is the pre-facelift model and saab are (unfortunately) on their way out of business, so i would say that there is scope for a discount. Linear is the most basic spec and saab drivers would generally expect a bit of luxury in the cabin, leather etc, so it's not a strong prospect for the seller.

I'd say you should go in looking to get it for €9k cash if you can.

PS: Advertised price seems standard from looking at carzone.

The fiat multijet engine in the 1.9 is very highly rated by the way.

Yeah the 1.9TDI fiat engine is meant to be great. That wouldnt put me off buying.

The add says it has leather aircon etc thats why I'm not sure if the dealer told me the correct model.

Is there any way to tell by actually looking at it?

I'd prefer a Fiat engine to a Vectra chasis anyday;)

The alloys would tell you the model.

If you post the dealer name here one of us should be able to find the link to the ad for you if you want.

Prices on Carzone are simply not realistic in this market. I have said in another thread that your local ads paper, Donedeal.ie, Gumtree.ie are better in terms of value than well marketed sites such as Carzone and Autotrader. Your paying for overheads of media companies and dealers. When you come to sell you will see just how much over the odds you have paid even if the car was the "cheapest" on Carzone.

As regards to the Fait engine being highly regarded, I never said is was a bad engine, I said that in essence a Saab TiD is a Fait with a Saab badge/body. It up to the buyer to see if the money is worth it.

I drive a Fiat Punto now so I'm happy enough with Fiats!

Car looks well, I wouldn't say the dealer knows what he's talking about as he calls it a TDI and not TiD but whatever! Looks fully loaded so doubt its the linear.

    That's what I was thinking

looks well, good colour combo and has factory fitted headlight washers which would lead me to believe it has xenon lights too.

I would say 06 means the month which it was registered, but if your going to buy best pay for a report.
