can someone please explain current situation of german rugby? i would have thought that even if it was an extreme minority game, there population would still be able to sustain a decent team.

They were recently promoted to ENC1 (the top division below 6N) and are doing reasonably well for themselves I think. I don't know much about the set-up over there. They used to beat France back in the day before WWII.

Germany are ranked just behind Namibia, a team that gave Ireland a real run for its money at the last WC!

There's a fairly long thread on planetrugby.com about this years ENC. You might get some insight into how the game in Germany is going from it. Apparently they are getting grants from the IRB to help develop the game there.

What'll we do if they make it into the top tier,
I can imagine supporters getting very confused if a german team were playing the saxons in the seven nations :)

I think from 2000 up until 2008 they didn't lose a single home game until they lost to a Welsh selection side

Have to say, whichever German fan is keeping wikipedia up to date is doing a great job. Things aren't looking good for them at the minute.

I would say we're years away from seeing a German team come up to the level of Georgia.

You wouldn't know this fact from Jonah Lomu rugby by any chance?:pac: I always found those little snippets of information interesting.

Was that on account of Rugby League being bigger game in France back then?

Partly I imagine. Though undoubtedly it had a lot to do with Rugby Union being quite strong in Germany at the time too.
