    Hi all.
This might be in a sticky. Just a quick question, I haven't imported a car from the uk for a few years.
The itch is now upon me.
My question to which I don't seem to able to find an ansewer is. If I import a 1996 car will I pay emmisions or engine size annual rd tax. I have looked on the revenue website and they sound confused. anyone brought over a big engined yoke recently ?
I am only asking about the annual rd tax.

Road tax (it's called motor tax in this country) on cars registered (anywhere in the world) before 2008 is still based on engine size. VRT is based on CO2

See the detailed link in the sticky ;)

    Cars First Registered Outside Ireland
A private car first registered abroad prior to 1 January 2008 will be taxed on engine
size (cc). The new CO2 based system does not apply to second-hand imports that were
    registered abroad prior to 2008.
A private car first registered abroad between 1 January 2008 and 30 June 2008
inclusive and subsequently registered in Ireland will be taxed on whichever is the lesser
of the motor tax rates based engine (cc) or CO2 emissions.
A private car first registered abroad after 1 July 2008 and subsequently registered in
Ireland will be taxed on the CO2 rate.
