    Hi all,
I have a new Pace Sky+ box,1 month old.I also have a Thomson Sky HD freesat box, where I watch the freesat HD channels.
The normal SD channels are of far better quality on the HDMI input,my question being if I were to put the viewing card into the Sky HD box, would Sky let me run a normal subscription (no HD sub) on the HD box?
I know I'd lose BBC HD and CH4 HD but I'd live with that....

Yes, they left me do it :-)

BBC HD can be added through extra channels, not sure about C4 as I never watch it. You can always swap back in your freesat card if u want.

Only premimum channels like Movies and Sports seem to tied to a box, if your card is valid, you can use it in other box while cards are swapped.

    Absolutely - no problem.:)

I've had a SKY HD box since launch, but I've grown tired of paying a premium sub and not being able to record BBCHD, so I've retired the SKY HD box to the kids room (with a basic SKY sub - no HD - €20.50 per month) and I use a Humax HD Freesat HDR in the main room, where I can record BBCHD, BBC3/4 and ITVHD plus the regular SD channels without sub.

You would lose C4 HD completely but as Bogger77 says you could still watch (but not record) BBC HD.

I mean "Freesat" as in the brand. I can record all the FTA channels and I have the benefit of a 7 day EPG with which to control my recording/viewing. I could never record BBC HD or BBC3/4 with the SKY box as it wasn't on that EPG.

If you are referring to a UK SKY card which provides you with access to CH4 HD, then, if it's not inserted in the box you won't have access to it, nor will you be able to record BBC HD.

The standard Irish SKY+ subscription card will allow you to view and record and subscribed SD channels on the SKY HD box. You lose CH4 HD entirely and BBC HD gets relegated to "other channels" as does ITV and BBC 3, 4 yada yada...

I've had Sky HD from the start also and recently cancelled the HD subscription for exactly the same reason, their refusal to load BBC HD on the Irish epg, thus the inability to record.

Your comment about it being "relegated" to other channels intrigues me; I have NEVER seen or been able to get BBC HD on the epg, it was always only available as "other channels". Did you have a different card?

Another question for you. I would like to get one of those Humax HDR boxes, and soon. If I want to operate it from the Sky dish along with a basic Sky subscription for the HD box, what do I need? Will an octo LNB on the dish arm feed everything?
