need to give this some serious thought, am getting desperate for a new server.

do you know if the quad core version uses the same ram as the older dual core ML115's that were on sale previously on elara? (i.e. DDR2)

also, does anyone have any details of the hardware spc other than what's on the site as most of the important info is missing.

specifically thinking IDE/SATA ports and that kind of thing.

how about those noisy fans? are they standard 80/90/120mm ones? would like to swap them out with quieter ones as soon as i get the chance once I have it bought.

thanks, found the link on the HP Ireland website too.

looks like it might only have a 1 year next day warranty now though, as opposed to the previous revisions elara sold last year which seemed to have a 3yr one.

still, i'm thinking I'm gonna go for it. time to count my pennies.

Fair play to Elara for beating Ebuyers price on this. If you can pick it up from Elara in Park West the price would be €190.76 (€189.54 + €1.22) in total.

This could be used as a home PC but doesn't have any sound as far as I know. So you'd need an add-in sound card. It has no operating system either, although you can install any version of Linux on it for free. It's certified to work with Red Hat (Fedora) and SuSE Linux.

Hi Martin,

Hmmm, not sure on the link as I’ve just tried it and it is working ok for me.

That’s a good point about the preferred memory type for the ML110 G5. The quick spec for the server mentions “Unbuffered ECC” though I am running non-ECC memory quite happily in it.

these servers don't have 5v PCI capability. they will only accept "universal (3.3v/5v)" cards or 3.3v cards. they have the notch at the bracket end of the card, not the back, so check an image of the card before you think about any add-in cards for this server.
