    Alright fellas,

I have a mate who is running his new rig (Toyota Landcruiser) on the green derv. He drives about the country alot and fills 'er up at petrol stations out in the wilds of Mayo and such like.

Anybody know what the fine is if he gets stung by the Garda?

    Thanks

    Evan.

This mate wouldnt happen to be called Evan Forrell by any chance.....?

Dunno, its customs "he" should be worried about, not the Gardai. As far as i know, its a fairly hefty fine..

Oh man the PC brigage are going to have a field day with this thread

Heard before it's something like a €1,500 euro fine

The sulpher levels are wayyyy higher in green diesel (this is how customs check if you're running green by checking exhaust emissions, aswell as dipping the tank etc) which ain't good for modern engines either.

All this is just stuff i've heard so don't take it as bible, it's just my understanding

Well, he is saving €45 a fill, twice a week. It would want to be a cracker of a fine to deter this chap.

This is Tax evasion, and will be dealt with brutally.
Fine is over €1200 + and then the revenue may decide to look more closely at his tax affairs - and do an audit on his books if he's self employed, audit his VAT etc etc.
Foolish guy - could be setting himself up for a major fall.

It's an illegal activity - and ohhhhh, I'm in before the lock!

well hows it now ,i got done last august for the eco friendly stuff, and funny enough it was in a landcruiser aswell 07 and i had myself convinced that they would not go near such a new jeep, they sent me a letter saying that they could charge me €4,000 but that if i paid up fast they would accept €2000k, anyway i forgot to pay the bloody fine, and it went to court ,and i didnt get the summons so i didnt go to court, and a bench warrant was issued, nice all over a couple of gallons of the greens diesel, but to cut a lomng story short , solicitor got me off on tecknicality, and down turn in economy, and all that , but the fine is 750 on the spot or 2000 if they send you the letter, it could have changed in the last few months i dont really want to find out.

There is lots of people doing this at the moment where i'm from. I really think the chances of getting caught are tiny. Customs checks are unbelievably rare out around the west of the country anyway. In 6 years of driving I have seen one checkpoint. Funny thing is I was driving a nice shiny new John Deere for a builder running it on green of course and technically it should be using road diesel(it was obviously not in agri use) but they didnt know or didnt care and waved me on.
