    As per the Collaboration thread:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055498993

We've got vocals and drums sorted. We need a guitarist and bassist to join the tracking session this Saturday from 10.30 in Trackmix Studios out in Clonsilla.

The song to be recorded is "How You Remind Me" by Nickelback.

Mick's being very generous with his time and studio here, it'd be a shame if we couldn't pull this together. Who's gonna put their own time and playing where their internet-forum-mouth is? :P

Good man Fitz for keeping then momentum here...

I just spoke to a guitarist buddy of mine (who also previously recorded in Trackmix as it happens). He'll play guitar (both lead & rhythm if needed) on Sat.

So now, we just need a bass player.

C'mon, there must be somebody out there who knock out a bass line on Sat am?

I asked my bassist but he's away on Saturday...maybe Doctor J?

I could do it, I'm free on Saturday. Might be a little tired after Friday night (playing Dorans, come along!) but I'm sure I'd be up for it.

Nice one dude, I thought you were a guitarist/singer though?
If we can get someone who's primarily a bassist, I think that'd be the ideal...
    I've PM'd Doctor J about it...

.... as per Sound On Sound standard operating procedures for this type of project, I'll bring the Chocolate Hob Nobs.

Hmm... free food... now that'll flush out the bass players ;)

Is there lead guitar in that tune? Seem to recall it launched the 'no solos!' argument. You guys should put one in all the same.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,576 ✭✭✭fitz

There's several guitar lines...the lead line is the one with all the vibrato/chorus effect. I'm sure if someone hears a solo on the day, we'll lash it down...

ZV, jaffa cakes might be more effective.

This is gonna be sooo cool!

    hmm, chocolate hobnobs...

I'll see what way work is shaping up this week. If I can get off I'd be well up for doing it.

    I own a bass!
Don't know the song. If it's not a real roast I'd be up for it.

why are you recording a Nickleback song????? Any originals?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,576 ✭✭✭fitz

ZV Yoda'll be behind the kit, Paul.

    Rat, here's the track: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=5128053

It's an easy song for everyone to learn and will lend itself to good mix practice.

We wanted to keep it simple... the intent is to learn about the tracking/recording process... not to get too hung up on what song gets recorded. Trackmix (who's graciously facilitating this in his studio) suggested the track & it seems to work for the players concerned. It's just a simple 4/4 rock song.

That'd be me... I'm bringing Hob Nobs & drum sticks (sounds like an old Disney movie… oh no, that was Bedknobs & Broomsticks )

...oh, and Jaffa cakes for Fitz (typical singer... has to have his own rider :P )

Hey, don't knock mentioning Jaffa Cakes...it worked didn't it? Look at all the volunteers!

    :D

As far as I can tell, the line up is:
    Vox: Fitz
    Drums: Yoda
    Guitar(s)?: Yoda's buddy
Bass: Studiorat / Ardistarling have both offered to play

On the guitars... my mate will be able to put both lead & rhythm down if required, but is there anybody else playing guitar... or who wants to play guitar? (just so we can make sure we coordinate who plays the guitar lines?)

As the seasoned pros have told us here many times... rule # 1 is "turn up at the session on time & make sure you know your respective parts!"

    (see, we do listen!) ;)

I'll try an learn the guitar lines too, I wouldn't mind doing a bit on that side too, but if someone else wants to jump in, go ahead...

    Great.
    We are almost sorted.
I always advise bands to book a gig even if they feel they aren't ready.
Things get done when there is a deadline.
    This really proves that.
    Really looking forward to it.
I hope Tele Paul will play some guitar if he can make it.
This whole idea came from his post about the forum getting too "pro".
Also, as said in the original thread, I can accommodate a few people (within reason) who want to sit in on the session.
    PM for google map link.
    Michael

Hey man, thanks for the vote of confidence but I doubt you'd be saying that if you heard me play - all my stuff sounds like the solo from Dr. Hook's "Cover of the Rollin Stone"! :p

Hey, seems like a cool idea, I'm a bassist and if the other guys cant do it, I'd be well up for it. I have recorded on some sessions before.....look forward to see how it turns out though either way!

My guitarist buddy called me last night to say he's still on for this, but will only be able to make it there for 1pm, so if any other guitarist can be there earlier, then that might be a better option.

What time is everybody else arriving?... I will be there at 10:30 as originally proposed by Michael/Trackmix.

To track the drums, I'll just need a basic rhythm guitar/chords & a rough guide vocal. It's a pretty straightforward song in that the rhythm guitar remains constant throughout.

Michael... given that it's your studio/time do you have any comments on which players need to be there at what time?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,576 ✭✭✭fitz

A rough session schedule would be good to have alright...
I'll be bringing a +1 who wants to sit in on the session, we'll be a little late (prior engagements!), already filled Mick in when he proposed the session initially...
I'm sure Mick can fill in on guide guitar if we're really stuck for something to track drums to.
Can we confirm numbers for who'll be there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,457 ✭✭✭ZV Yoda

Yeah, would be good to get a schedule/list of players together...

Are there any other guitarist who can/want to play, or do I assume my mate will do the lot (just so he can learn the guitar parts).

    Thanks

As I said, I'll play too to mix it up a bit if there aren't other people looking to play guitar. Had a look at it last night, there's not much too it really.
