i ave used the sunbed for years the stand up ones r brilliant i reccomend max 3 mins first time and four days a week to build up a base and the max you r allowed on a stand up bed is 8-9 mins good luck happy tanning:)

Dont need one..I have a sexy natural tan;)

I have used them for many years. I think the lie down ones are the best, as i think the tan is more intense.

But maybe if its your first time using them, try the stand up one first....5-7mins 3 times a week, then build up to 10 mins 3 times a week on the lie down.

Sometimes the creams can be very expensive, Semi Chem do a brilliant one, dont know the name, buts its the only sunbed cream in the shop, and its only 1.99

But a word of warning, i have notice that it deffo does speed up the aging process, so if you do intend using them, invest in some good skincare creams.

me myself and i do you do them 3 times a week? i use them but that seems like alot, also where do you do them/.

standup is more hygenic. you are not lying on something that someone else lay on and let sweat or other body fluids on!

3 mins to start and not more than 2 sessions per week with not more than 20 per year is reccomended.

also use one of the specialised lotions when there as up to 60% of the rays are reflected by the skin wheras with the lotions you can get a darker tan faster.

remember to use the eye protectors and also put a sunblock on your lips.

If you are using nude, then protect the delicate areas too!

it all depends on your skin tone. You should have a consultation before you use it and they can tell you how long and how many times a week to use it according to your colouring.
I would always go for a stand up one it is more hygenic.

I always turn off the face panel when I use the lie-down sunbed, that's the reason I wouldn't use the stand up, they don't have that option. When I started off i went for 8 mins and over the course of 12 sessions built up to 20 mins. This gave me a nice golden colour for my hols, was pleased with this as I have quiet fair skin. I went about every second to third day,

sorry if you dont wanna hear this, but i worked in a tanning centre. all the women working there used sunbeds (probably way too often too) and after a year or two, depending on how often/intense, they all had skin like a leather coat. I know that some people are responsible when it comes to looking after their skin, but any kind of regular use will hurt you in the long run.

Would using them once a week build up any base colour? Say four mins every Sat.. (The only day id have off to make appointment!) Or would it make no difference?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 848 ✭✭✭ravima

Twould build it up nicely over 5/6 weeks. it would look natural rather than orange and the best thing is, you would be into the summer (hopefully) by then and no one need know it was from the beds.

use a moisturiser though to get full benefit.

Sorry if this sounds rude, but how about accepting that your not Italian and that your supposed to have pale skin. Pale skin is not ugly. Plus these beds are so dangerous its beyond reasoning why anyone with a thinking brain would use them.

its rather astonishing, but most people die in bed. therefore to be ultra safe, you should never go to bed.

all life's pleasures have risks - yoga, parachuting, diving, golf, even breathing, as 100% of dead people 'draw their last breath'.

if a person wants to use a tanning bed, then let them.

smoking kills. however, if I want to go into a pub, I invaribly have to pass through smokers at the door. Some particle of smoke enters my system, but i do not think I will die of lung cancer SOLELY as a result of this.

if person uses sunbed and is most unfortunate to get terminal cancer, it is UNLIKELY that the sunbed was the SOLE cause of the illness. Remember, the person still has to live and go outdoors receiving those dangerous rays from the sun - unless they wear the BOURKA whenever they go out and also shield their eyes. If they do that, then they should not pick up any of the sun's dangerous rays, but may die of Vitamin D deficiency and also suffer from rickets.

I'm not saying they shouldnt be let. I was just commenting on how selfish and stupid it is for people to risk death so that they can conform to what society tells them is an attractive skin tone.

The facts for the link between passive smoking and cancer is out there, so too is the evidence of the link between cancer and sun beds. I'm not sure what your point is here. People who smoke are in a different situation to people who use sun beds to look good. You can't even begin to link the two.

We all understand that the sun can be good for you in many ways, but thats no reasons to jump under a sunbed and increase the risk of cancer because you're not ok with the way you look.

To some, sunning and tanning is a great pleasure, that should not be denied them. To others, drinking to excess is a pleasure, why deny them? Others again might like to experiment with autoeroticism, why deny them? Sleeping is a necessity as is GOING OUTDOORS and thereby ABSORBING SUNLIGHT.

I disagree that it is selfish to look well. All of us want to look our best and is this selfish? because I'm worth it! I am a temple of the Holy Spirit. I need to keep this temple is pristine condition, worthy of the presence of the Holy Spirit - not a simple vessel to be treated unworthily.

I agree that smokers are different to sunbed users. Smokers are absorbing carcniogenic chemicals into their bodies, sunbed users are using UV light in controlled surroundings.

Some authorities even think that there is a link between cancer and LACK of sunlight and that sunbeds can actually benefit the body, as long as not abused and overused.

I work in a place that does UV tanning. Anybody that uses our beds is advised to do a skincare consultation with one of our consultants before using the bed. Every person has different skin, some could do 10mins first time others only 5/6 mins.

Also I would advise anybody using UV to use a UV cream

I've never used sunbeds but snore...

This isn't a thread for discussion of your opinion on sunbeds, why don't you start your own thread if you feel so strongly. This isn't the place for it.

You should do some research on the benefits of UV treatment. If used responsibly it is actually good for you

. I was just commenting on how selfish and stupid it is for people to risk death so that they can conform to what society tells them is an attractive skin tone.

    .

How is it selfish? My opinion of selfishness for example would be constantly putting your wants before others needs. Using a sunbed for your own pleasure is not affecting anyone else in any kind of way. So, again please explain why its selfish?

I have bitten my tongue about this but yes, I think that using sunbeds is selfish - anyone who has seen a loved one go through cancer will know how upsetting it is, what is worse is if they essentially caused it themselves due to vanity.

Oh, I had a relative that used UV treatment responsibly but they still got skin cancer - their type is called 'death by a thousand cuts', not something that I would choose for any loved one.

Sorry, I am not trying to antagonise anyone but I have so many loved ones with skin cancer that it is not a joke.

OP - would you not consider fake tan? They appear to be getting a lot more natural now.

Jesus, some people just don't get it. Take it to your own thread tbh.

Does anyone here use or know the whereabouts of any coin-operated sunbeds in Dublin? I'm quite fair-skinned so find it hard to get over the embarrassment of walking into somewhere like Chartbusters...lol

People who use sunbeds also tend to be regular sunbathers.

Rickets is hardly an epidemic in this day and age, but premature aging is written on the faces of every regular sunbed user. That's quite apart from cancer.

Sure, its a risk among a lifetime of risks, but its not one that anybody has to take, unlike crossing the road.

The analagy of bed being dangerous is ridiculous.

Totally agree. I'm fair skinned (actually the whitest of the white) and i have never used a sunbed, but because i'm disabled, i don't get out of the house very much, even during the summer, so maybe a sunbed is something to think of occasionally during winter.
