Any latest news on the redevelopment of musgrave? I havent heard anything in awhile about it tho I doubt anything will be done now with the financial downturn.

Plan is to revamp it into a 14,000 municipal type stadium which is being mainly funded by IRFU and will still go ahead as planned at the end of this season as far as I know. No plans to shelve it, but work isn't due to commence until mid 2009 and it'll be out of action for next season.

As far as I know the plan is possibly rent it to FAI & GAA as an investment more than anything and use it for smaller Munster games to ensure the other side of the province gets it's fair share of games also.

Great inititave shown by the IRFU and Munster branch of keeping the game all inclusive and developing top facilities. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

Taken from the developers website: (possibly phase 1 of project, I'm not sure)

    Musgrave Park Re-Development, Cork

Construction of new Two Storey Stand with seating capacity of 6573 spectators and 50 media personnell together with dressing rooms, offices, medical rooms, general purpose rooms, retail units and administration offices for the IRFU Munster Branch at Musgrave Park, Cork.

Ya, the term "municipal type stadium" has been floating around for a while now varying between 14,000 and 18,000 capacity .
With the all-seater two-storey stand that [Jackass] was talking about replacing the West-Stand and a smaller all-seater stand to replace the East-Terrace.
Not sure about the terraces behind each goal but they could do with a bit of a make-over and not just a lick of paint like this time. ;)

This link might explain the hold up:
