Back again with the Spring body-popping Electric Shock Shocking, in the house is Ms. Ellen Alien - DJ & producer extraordinaire. One of the very select band of female artistes who have played for Electric Cty (can you name all the others?) but gender doesn't mean nothing in this case because she is top class DJ, producer & record (yes, still on vinyl) label owner - no doubts. We've had a long collaboration with the Berlin chanteuse extending back 5 years (Good lord - Pension ed.) to our first birthday when we pulled off a cracking line-up that saw Speedy J tear the roof off the basement following a slinky electrofied set of techno from Ellen. Through the years, we've grown together although Ellen has become much more famous and successful than us, but we have always kept in touch like Facebook friends and this will be her 5th visit back to the hallowed turf of EC FC Pro.

BPitch Control label owner, producer and DJ extraordinaire is one of our favourite DJs with unbeatable track selection to rock the Electric Shock. Recent years have been insanely busy for Frau Allien as she masterminded a series of firing releases on Bpitch, remixed Thom Yorke & Beck, had two fashion lines put out (inspiring us for our EC T-shirt range!) and released several 12s and an album and played live across Europe with Apparat. Last year she released the 4th Volume of her Boogy Bytes Mix Series with devastating track selections from the BPitch catalogue. She also released the chart-busting album 'Sool' which saw her expand out in the lyrical arena. As we move into Spring, it is of course time for the new Spring collection of Ellen Allien fashion to be delivered to you! Besides the main line, Ellen also did a new side line called Quartett for spring summer. Catch a taste - EC never wear anything else, dahlinks! (Oi! - Paul Smith Ed.)

This year marks 10 years of her BPitch Control (Lordy Lord - Pension Ed.) record label and we are happy she will be touching down in Dublin to blow out the candles and the Function 1 soundsystem as we let Ellen take the controls from midnight until the early hours.

Playing before Ellen and no doubt causing her eyes to flutter will be the Disko Lunarian, Barry 'Scally' Donovan. Together with Andy Doyle, Barry has launched the Lunar Disko Recordings label with the latest release by Faceless Mind getting hammered by The Baron (that's Dave Clarke, not Sunil Sharpe, btw ). Barry is a regular at all the clubs that matter in Dublin and has the skills to, if not quite pay the bills, then at the very least have a savage weekend. The Lunar Disko club night continues to go from strength to strength moving into their 4th year of bringing over the leading underground Italo and electro artists from home and abroad to the Underground on a monthly basis. Andy & Barry's Disko adventures endeavors have been recently immortalised by legendary Italo scribe, Lina Goldberg (also of discofinger.com). Check it here at: www.splicetoday.com/music/interview-lunar-disko If he wasn't such a 'cut me and I'll bleed red' Scouser, we'd adopt the little bugger.

Downstairs, we have hailing from Carlow, this trio of DJs and producers (Eddie Reynolds, Paul Reynolds and Dean Feeney) have been quietly making a name for themselves with live shows and DJ sets inspired by their love of the Motor City sounds. Releases to date have come on the Fine Art and Nice 'n' Nasty imprints. Much like the guys themselves who prefer to let their music do the talking, Last years 'Mystery Train' EP in particular was picked up by the deepest of house and techno DJs worldwide. Check also the excellent www.infiintestatemachine.com for some outstanding mixes from Dean Feeney to get a flavour of the sounds that will be going down in the underground. Check also their Myspace sites for plenty of info, sounds and mixes to get you in the mood.

The best thing to come out of Shannon since the airport, Eoin Callanan will be getting things off to a flying start in the basement. Finishing up is Rian Ryan. Yes. Rian. Ryan. From Maynooth. Exactly. The chicken. The tent. The very same. Rian Ryan. Rian. Ryan. You were at Bloc too? Good buzz by all accounts. Killer DJ. Rian. Absolute lunarian. Yes, Finishing up. Rian Ryan. Salutations. You know the score.

    Rrrrrockit!

    Hey,

We have some passes for Ellen Allien up for grabs:

What is the name of Ellen's Spring 2009 Fashion collection ?

    Q) Quartett
    Q) Quarantine
    Q) Quidam

Competition closes on Friday April 24th.

Joining Ellen on the night will be visual artist Pfadfinderei. Renowned as one of the best visual artists around, Pfadfinderei [don't worry, we can't pronounce it either] can also be found sharing the stage with other BPitchers such as Modeselektor and Apparat. Hallo,

Don't stop sending your Ellen fashion answers. The lucky winners names will be drawn from a Phillip Tracey hat live on Expose this Friday evening by the ever-so-lovely-TV3-till-I-die Karen Koster.

If you are heading to the Squarepusher early show in The Button Factory on Saturday, bring along your ticket stub and we will let you in for a tenner.

Or you can grab 4 tickets for a score [yes that is a fiver each] from www.bodytonicmusic.com/store. Don't sit on it though as the offer runs out at midnight tonight.

Set times are shaping up like this:

i have to say i was slightly disappointed

Ellen Allien played a wide-ranging set , however it was a bit sporadic and she took a while to get into her stride - I've seen her play better. Not sure how many of the crowd appreciated it, though it was crowded. The sound system was annoyingly loud and lacking deep bass and clarity. Downstairs seemed good enough in a standard-techno-night-out kind of way.

Having said that I was a bit tired after Rob Hood on Friday, maybe I've been spoiled but I'm still looking for a good electronic venue in Dublin.
