Dublin to Galway

I have been considering cycling from Dublin to Galway sometime this summer. The route I have is here.

The distance is 250km and I was wondering would it be feasible to do it in one day?

Any information on food, hydration and breaks would be great! Thanks!

did you mean cork? galway is somewhere...eh else.
the main concern is avoiding main roads due to their habit of being dangerous. the N7 is not good.

That's definitely not Galway mate... either way, I think Blorg did Dublin - Cork in one day (he's done Dublin-Galway), and it's not impossible, but would be a long day in the saddle for sure

As somebody who doesn't do long treks usually, but cycles everywhere, I managed Galway-Dublin earlier this year in a day. A long day - about twelve hours including breaks and stops for food, but if you have a half decent bike you should do it in much, much less. I was using the piece of crap I had when I was living in Galway, wanted to get it home to Dublin and use it as my commuting bike.

I should emphasise just how crap it was, I have a feeling there may be slaggings over just how long it took me.

    OK, here goes...

12 hrs?! I flew from Dublin to Dubai via London in that time... on a plane!
    That's all I got.

Also any suggestions of alternative, safer routes?

Do you have a garmin edge 705? They are handy for programming routes for following. Blorg and myself successfully used one on our trip from Dublin to Waterford. It kept us off all but a few km of N roads. Blorg had made the route using mapsource, but you can also used mapmyride or bikeroutetoaster to create a tcx file to upload to the unit.

I'm hopefully investing in a nice road bike next month - I'm very interested in repeating the journey and seeing how long it takes me then.
