I was wondering if fas ecollege courses are of any benefit in helping people get jobs.

I did a 4 year degree in college but can not get any work.
I had a job for close to a year but it ended so since then I've gone to a good few pointless interviews and found nothing.

I've now had no work for over a year and am fed up.

Would a fas ecollege course be any good to me a guy who did a degree and still can't get any work?

I was thinking of doing the java online course as it would provide sun java certification.
Or would it be a waste of time?

No, it would not be a waste of time. Doing nothing would be a waste of time.

I registered at the start of the month to do excel. I have all the excel skills, just wanted to brush up. Did half the course in a day last week. (though you wouldn't do this in programming)

Register in a FAS office and do it. If you get a job without completing it and of no relevance to the course, so what?

    Best of luck.

Its a shame, but If I have learn't anything in the last few years..a degree means very little. Its even lost its weight in "getting your foot in the door" - additional courses are definitely the way to go if you wanna get into something worthwhile and interesting.

A lot of people bank too much on their degrees, frankly its not enough these days.

Find the area you like and make yourself an expert in it. Do your homework, Do the courses. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it in the end.

BTW OP, Java is a good way to go, but make yourself an expert in it. C++ also. Best of luck with it!
