if you can go 'wideslab' instead of 'hollowcore', all the better.....

    Hi Syd,

What is the difference between Wideslab and Hollow core? What is the advantage of wideslab?

    Thanks in advance.

I'm also currently in the pricing stages of hollowcore/wideslab flooring and tbh I'm finding it hard to get a quote out of any of the suppliers I've asked so far. Can anyone PM me the names of some suppliers they found to be good. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

hollowcore slabs require a 215 block wall as support at all areas.
Wideslab can be supported on 100 block walls and only require 215 where two slabs meet internally. There is savings to be made here.

In the domestic situation wideslabs are usually sufficient, its only when you are into mush wider spans do hollowcore become economical.

see page 2 for the difference between hollowcore and widslab (plate floor).....

Not sure about the 215 block for hollowcore. I am using hollocore and have been told by the engineer, installer and supplier that i only need 215 where slabs meet. 100mm everywhere else.

As for price, 200mm slabs were quoted to me at €33 a square metre fitted including vat.

That sound good. Could you PM me please.

I hope to use 150mm hollowcore. I will use heavy duty lintels on internal load bearing walls (100mm).

A Galway based supplier called out to me yesterday. He wants me to use steel hangers where two hollowcore ends meet on 100mm wall. This sounds a bit dodgy to me. At the very least I would use 10N blocks to support the weight. Has anyone else heard of this method?
