extraction after root canal and crown

    Hi,
I was wondering why a tooth which had a root canal and crown would need to be extracted? There is no infection, the crown? ( or something with a metal part attached) just fell out when eating, the dentist mentioned something about a fracture but I don't know what she was referring to.

    Thanks,
    Jodie

My best guess is that the tooth fell out because the root of the tooth (into which the "metal part" is planted) has become fractured, which could lead to infection, and it may not be realistic to stick the pin back in and expect it to stay there.

At least if it is a front tooth, you should probably seek a second opinion because there might be other options? Maybe one of the dentists around can elaborate?
