well basically I apllied for two different apprenticeships with ESB and Dublin Bus/Bus Eireann, but got responses from both of them saying that i did not meet the minimum educational requirements as a pass is needed in ordinary level maths in the jc,I did the jc in 2004 but did foundation maths(and passed) same in the lc in 06 I did foundation too(and passed),im just wondering is the ordinary maths pass compulsory in all apprenticeships or are there ways around it?Im new to the whole apprenticeship scene so im just trying to figure out if im more or less blacklisted for any apprentices because of my exam results

    ,Thanks

Im not sure, but if you ring FAS they will clarify the matter with you,i did foundation maths in the leaving cert myself,as for junior cert i cant remember,im nearly 4th year now in a electrical apprenticeship.
I know there is a course you can do for people who do not have the educational requierments sett out to enter into a apprenticeship.
So i wouldnt give up hope, like i said best to ring FAS as all apprenticeships are done through them and they will be able to tell you what you have yo do.

With foundation Maths, you likely won't meet the minimum requirements for most apprenticeships, which is understandable.

Whether it's electrical engineering (ESB) or mechanical (CIE), or even a carpentry apprenticeship - it's all going to involve mathematics, and if you're only able to grasp maths at a foundation level, you likely won't understand the theory part of the training for these jobs.

Advise? Re-sit the Maths LC exam at Ordinary Level. You can get your app in now for the exam in June, and start grinds. It's the only way to meet minimum requirements. You'll need a decent grasp of it anyway to be able to handle the theory phases of the training!
