Firstly, a huge congrats to Ireland's own, Bernard Dunne. Despite racking up 27-1 record prior to this fight, beating decent competition along the way - Bernard could still never please some of the posters on here.

Let's just give the man his due, he proved many critics wrong.. Got rocked a few times in the fight, but still busted his balls to come back and scrape, what is in my opinion - his toughest fight to date. Will he beat the likes of Lopez or Caballero? Maybe not - But it doesn't take away the reality of his current accomplishment.

When he was knocked out by Kiko Martinez, he was verbally assaulted on this forum. And in less than a few fights, he completely turns his career around, ups his training and earns a well earned title through great work ethic and dedication.

It takes balls to firstly even step into a ring; but it takes more balls to not quit when the going gets tough and come back to win a world title. So before you judge Dunne, think hard about what you really are saying. Be happy for one of your own countrymen, who has brought the sport of boxing back to the Irish public.

I hope none of this is directed towards me, I nearly cried when he won and I've been on a massive high since. The rugby win seems like nothing to me, such the magnitude of Bernard's achievements.

But I always try and be honest and if it's comments like Juan Manuel Lopez would destroy him or Israel Vasquez is the true Super-Bantamweight champion of the World then I'm only speaking the truth. Dunne himself would probably admit to the second of those 2 opinions.

Not directing it at anyone in particular. Just in general Big Ears.

I was bouncing around the pub like a lunatic last night when he won. The rugby might have been the highlight of the day for some sports fans in Ireland, but for me - this was my highlight of the year.

just a little aside here but Dunne's family home was targeted last night and his brother's car was burnt out... there are some total scum out there

I don't want to single anyone out; I'm not even only referring to last night - But in general. No matter what Dunne does, he never seems to please anyone. I think people could be a little more positive in their comments. I'm sure you've no doubt noticed a similar trend.

John, absolutely, Dunne desreves credit. I just like in depth discussion and in doing so, sometimes not all the points will be positive.

In Dunne's case, he did so well, so well and lets pat him on the back. I have to agree with Big Ears regarding the guys at the top destroying him.

They would I feel. He's a notch below and even now after the win, he's still 8th overall in the complete rankings!

Have some balls mate - state which posts you are referring to and then we can discuss if you have a point or not.

I havent seen anything that tries to take anything away from his performance.

This is the boxing forum - must of us, well at least a good few of us, have indepth knowledge of the game and we didnt have to skim over subjects or dumb down the conversation - its not like its Jimmy Magee trying to inform housewife about the fight and having ZERO critical analysis!

It's disgraceful, there's some very bitter and jealous individuals out there.
Still they can commit all the acts of thuggery they want, it'll never put a World title around their waist.

Well said brother. The division is a strange one. I never fancied Dunnes chances against Marquez or Vasquez. He could possibly get the job done against Cabellero but that would mean the fight of his life and working on that defence.

I think Lopez is a great prospect and could dominate the division in the future but the guy has not been in a fight as yet. His next opponent was a great fighter and could have been a great test but Penalosa is about 36-37 and also a natural bantam weight.

Get Lopez in there with Vazquez and the winner can sit on top of the tree.

Disgrace. The same lads probably went down with their dole and had a few extra pints on his win. Stuff like that pisses me off. Cant just enjoy it like everyone else. Who cares if hes not the best in the world, he turned frowns upside down on saturday night and we all should be proud.
