I think I will close this thread.

Anyway, you and me and many others didn't think Dunne could win.

Rock and Dowling didn't think so and I bet a whole lot of others.

So, it's humble pie for all!:D

The only difference with me was that I never rated Dunne UNTIL
he proved to me he was worthy of rating., He proved it last night and that's
why I now rate him. No point in rating him as TOP ten until
    he actually earns it.

close away hombre - I was only havin the craic as you have been BD's harshest critic on here!

Not only did I not think BD would win I had £100 on Cordoba to win and another £50 for him to win by KO!

My god, you're worse than me mate.

I had Cordoba at 50 Euro in the 5th, can you imagine, and Dunne
was maybe 5 secs away from defeat. I got 20/1.

I also stuck 5 Euro on Dunne at 100/1 in rd 8.

Money means everything to us eh?

Betting against our own, ashamed we should be!

I admit even I had Cordoba winning in an accumulator.
That said Ian Napa ****ed things up for me Friday so it didn't matter anymore really anyway.

Maybe we should change this to the lets eat humble pie thread rather than just Walshb, be can just be targeted more than the rest of us :D

Yep, more than Walshb but he does deserve the thread title honour in fairness in fairness.

I too did not rate Dunne, I questioned his power, I questioned his stamina and I questioned his jaw.

Last night all these questions were answered positively. I am delighted for Bernard Dunne and proud to be an Irishman after his great achievement last night.

I hope he goes on to even more success and I will never underrate him again.

Yeah, but all three are still in doubt. Remember, Cordoba was not a big hitter or not the best of the best. Dunne still deserves credit.

His stamina improved and his strength improved. His jaw is still so fragile

Agreed. If Dunne can just avoid anyone that has KO power(eg someone like Lopez etc) then he will hopefully defend a few times. :)

Betting €50 quid on Dunne losing should be the least of your worries. It's the the fact you lost your house which is the biggest disaster here. Especially in the current economic environment!

lol. walsh you've always backed up your dunne arguments with a mixture of facts and honest opinions but i think its time to get the knife and fork out!:D:p and be on the recieving end of many a "told ya so!"

So, in your opinion, one word: Bernard Dunne is world class... yes or no.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,625 ✭✭✭✭Johner

I think thats a bit harsh. He has his opinions and always did back them up with facts. Dunne did get an undeserved/lucky(whatever you want to call it) title shot and fair play for grabbing it with both hands I am delighted he did. :) I think what Walsh really means is Dunne is nowhere near the class of the best super bantams in the world. He would get slaughtererd if he fought the likes of lopez, marquez and vasquez and most of the heavy hitters in the division.

Dunne had his route set to a world title and in beating Cordoba he has proved that he is world class. Im not trying to put a dampner on Dunnes victory cos im delighted we have a world champ im just saying he isnt near the top/cream of the crop and never will be imo.

I think it is fair to say that a little trawl a few weeks ago deserves to be resurrected. Walshb I asked you last night if you had something for me and you didnt step up to the plate, just in case you forgot or couldnt be a.rsed to remember please read again ..... (sotty but couldnt re-quote them properly as some MOD closed the old thread )

I think NOT, as he is clearly not suited to the pro game and at 27 he is far
    past it
And by past it, I mean he is past his peak, whatever that was.
The chap cannot IMO improve. He hit his peak and his peak wasn't
close on being good enough. How he can come back and expect
    success is a dream......

The journeyman comment and the Hyland comment are the ones that stick out for me. Sure the rest is wrong but at least it didn't seem that ridiculous before last night(bar never fighting again, I thought it was quite obvious he would).

How in gods name he fancied Hyland to stop Dunne I'll never know.

and the fact that he is now putting his shoulder to the "dunne not a real world champ" thread only copper fastens my opinion on what his true agenda is.........

No faith?? I had 20 quid on Bernard to win by KO at 12/1 in any round, was thinking the 8th myself at 100/1 but said id go the safe(r) option an go for any round :D

Hes been called a liar a fake a pretender, accused of being gutless having a glass jaw, no stamina, sent packing from the states the list goes on - oh and now he is being criticized for structure of the WBA .. It's not even the typical Irish negative mentality, how many people are complaining that we only won the 6 nations due to the lack of Jones kicking ability.

Now Cordoba a guy who beat one of the elite in the division arguably beat Sidorenko and gave Poonsawat all he could handle is not worthy.

Dunne would have to unify to please some on here.

Congrats to Dunne on a well earn victory. I've always said if Dunne has the correct game plan he can compete with these top ten guys and I believe he proved that on Saturday night in a very entertaining fight.

BTW, he won a version of a version; not the same as the
real WBA champ. That is Caballero!
