    Hi,

I have been on the social welfare for almost 3 months now, I want to start working as a self employed person and start my own business. I have heard that the social welfare can give you a grant or somthing towards starting your new business... Is this true?
I'm thinking of ringing them up and querying it but dont want to be laughed at down the phone so figured I would ask in here instead first..
Maybe somone else has already took advantage of this scheme?

    Cheers

As far as I know there is a 'back to employment 'type payment available to long term unemployed (2 years plus) who are considering self employment. It pays a percentage of your typical unemployment benefit that reduces over three years. Other than that your best bet is the County Enterprise Board or Enterprise Ireland
