All skodas since 1995 i think are vw built. The superb is a great car, buckets of legroom and the 1.9tdi is very reliable

Just for the record Skodas are not built by VW, they are built in a Skoda factory in the Czech Repubic. Skoda is however owned by VW and their cars are based on VW models and share alot of components

The Superb is based on a stretched 1997 to 2005 Passat chassis, it also uses engines, running gear and switch gear from that generation Passat. Rear leg room and boot are huge.

OP go for the 130bhp version, the Superb is a big car and needs it.

Earlier this year we had 3 Superb 1.9Tdi 130's returned off lease. Smallest mileage was 188k - biggest was 280k+ - all 3 still going strong. Gearstick was a bit loose, but apart from that they were driving very well.

Huge inside and generally very well specced. A lot of car for the money they go for - definately try to get the 130 version, as above it's a big car and needs the power.

Slightly OT - apart from being out of proportion, the new model Superb is one hell of a car.

Does the Superb come in the 2.0 TDi at all?
    I see the Superb 1.9 is > 190 g CO2/km

Sorry to go off topic, but it's a very quick question and I'm an avid reader of this forum - what does "running gear" mean?

Engine and gearbox really, and drivetrain layout, ie FWD, RWD or 4WD.

That's no excuse for it being the ugliest car in production at the moment. I'm actually amazed after seeing one in the metal at how ugly they managed to make it! If you need space that badly buy a transit van!

But if you are on the inside, enjoying the Limo like space, you can't see just how hideous it is (unless you happen to catch a glimpse in a mirror) ;)

I have a 05 Superb 1.9 tdi (130), and I love the car. It is very well equipped, nothing has failed on it yet (80k miles) and it is very economical for a car of this size (around 50-51 mpg with mostly motorway driving). If it is serviced regularly it will make you a very happy owner.

But I agree that the 100bhp version is def. underpowered. And if you get one make sure that one of the first thing to do is to get the Pollen Filter sealed. It's seal is prone to breaking, which can cause water to get via the Pollen Filter under the carpet on passenger side of the car, which can cause huge electrical problems and are very costly to fix.

I would also recommend to go for the comfort version and not the baseline classic spec.
