    Hi, welcome to Airsoft.
Are you planning on skirmishing or just shooting targets?
If you are planning on skirmishing then you'll be better off buying an AEG, but if you're just shootign targets then a GBB would be ok.
How much are you looking on spending?

    Thanks for the welcome.

I will prob start off shooting targets but have a definate interest in skirmishing in the future.

Can things like holsters ect be also purchased?

No problem and yes they can look around the different airsoft retailers listed in the retailers section of the forum.

I am now thinking i will purchase the socum .45 model with light and silencer. Anyone have one of these? Will the fact it is so big mean it will be difficult to purchase a holster?

One of my friends has one and he likes it.Keep in mind it's a non blow back so the slide won't move back and forward when you fire. On the plus side it will be quieter and use less gas. Holsters can be bought specifically for it or some adjustable holsters can take it.Here is a link to a review http://www.justpistols.co.uk/tmmk23.htm

    I have the SOCOM.

Beautiful piece, with a working silencer and light.I'd defintely recommend it.

Normal holsters won't fit with the light on but with the silencer on it will :)

    Really quiet because no blowback!

    Get it!

Yeah, I think I will get this one. I know you say normal holsters wont fit it with the light, but is there any such holster out there that does?

Also whats the deal with spare magazines costing so much? I mean close to 50 euro each? wtf?????

I've the MK23 too. Its an amazing pistol, once you get over how light and plastic it is. Its about the only airsoft gun out there (pistol or aeg) that a silencer actually does something on. The light is a joke (as you'll see in all reviews of it) but its there for show and finishes off the gun to perfection!

Not sure where you seen the price for the mag, they should be €30 in Ireland like here in Airsofteire. Tony in Eirsoft would be able to get them in for you too if they don't have any in stock.

One great thing about the MK23 other than the fact its a quiet as a church mouse is that it comes in its own custom case!

Airsofteire are the cheapest for it (ex shipping), followed by Eirsoft.

Now as for holsters any holster designed to take a large .45cal (like the big USP) or .50cal (like the HUGE Desert Eagle) should fit the mk23 no problems.
But for one that IS designed for it you'll have to look at the Milspec MK23 Holster from Redwolf in Hong Kong. Its got two mag pouches and a pouch for the silencer too. Its big enough for the LAM unit to stay on the gun AND has an opening in the bottom for the silencer to be fitted to the gun too (not to be recommended as the silencer will go past your knee!). Anyway its fantastic quality and the one I use with my MK23.

Now the only problem with the MK23 that may not do it for you is the lack of blow back (the slide doesn't move back when you fire) and the lack of weight and its plastic body. Other than thats its an amazing piece of kit, and good fun for target shooting too.

    G23 Small and reliable.

What pistols are meant to be.

Yes some are silent, but said silent pistols are also almost the size of AEGs.

Anyone who has a Desert Eagle for any use other than compensating or looking at themselves is just silly.

I only say the Glock 23 because i have it, there are probably many decent small pistols out there.
Just don't buy a big one thinking it would be use full for skirmishing.

But for shooting targets in the back Garden, then it's just down to what you think looks better.

Seeming how this is the case for you, I'd say go for the Socom, Despite hating it with a passion, it's decent enough, and suppose the silencer is slightly cool.

I guess it's really down to personal preference. There are lots of different types for different players, 1911s, M9s, HK USPs, glocks, sigs, etc. If you are investing in a pistol, I would suggest head out to your local site, most of the players would have a side-arm and most of them wouldn't mind handing it over to you for a few shots. Then you'd know what fits best.

Personally, KSC Glock 19 with metal slide.

I have a KWA Glock 23F (basically a full metal version of the G19) and it is brilliant. Only slight problem is the selector falling out and this can be prevented by regular tightening of the small allen head screw beside the back sight.

    Glock 34 from KSC/KWA
its the target pistol version of the afore mentioned glock 17 built on the same frame with a longer slide and barrel.
this gives the advantage of greater range.
its also an incredibly accurate beast (as are all KSC glocks)
I'd chose a KSC/KWA glock as a starter pistol for these reasons.

easily obtained for a reasonable price with a metal slide.
    exceptionally reliable.
exceptionally simple to take apart for maintenance
trigger safety means no getting caught with you safety accidentally engaged.
magazines are amongst the most easily obtained and robust available.
single action trigger means a very crisp trigger pull without creep which contributes to increased accuracy.
    highly gas efficient.
availability of 50 round extended magazines.
    excellent resale value.
best hop unit of any brand (IMO)
