My Sky HD box is driving me insane.

I record a programme and then i go to play and not only will it not play but the screen showing the programme is then frozen and you ahve to hit the sky button to unfreeze it... the programme just will not play, this is now happening more and more, can anyone tell me why? or is it something i am doing, i cant bare to ring sky but if i have to i will, jsut thought id try in here first.

    thanks in advance

My replacement box that i receive last week did this few days ago too.

I called Sky and they offered no solution. I told them i have been having numberous problems since i upgraded to HD in December 08 and that i am totally sick of it and would they take it back. The lady from Sky told me to write all the problems and request to have a "de-install" by email or letter.

I did that few days ago and no response yet.

well i wil give you what i was told by the {un]helpful installer, i rang him less then 12 hours after it was installed as it did this for the first time, he was great adn came back out....

he decided it was because i was recording 2 things at one. i said well yes you can do this, he said yes but you cant watch tv at the same time, i said well hello i know the rules dear i ahve had sky long enough to know how they limit it, which insedently is so not needed you coudl record 50 things at once they jsut dont let you.

so there you go.. again no help and no solution

Assuming signal quality is alright, then it's a box fault. I wonder did the installer did a forced update of the box's software? Or a Planner Rebuild?

this problem isnt unique to this box i had this issue with my old box [sky+] and i did all teh rebuilds, the formatting i have done it all and none of it worked, so i left all the programmes that wouldnt start on the disk to cover that bit of fault disc, as sky were unable to fix it.

there is so much more room on teh HD its not such a big issue jsut damn annoying when you are in a show, so you record it and then the damn thing wont play and freezes the system.

I had the same problem with mine but i noticed the less space i had left on the HD box the more common the problem became. When i was under 50% it started. So basically i try to keep the percentage above that and i seem to have no problems. Just try not to record programmes that are on HD channels as they take up about 3% at a time!:)

Fair enough. I did have similar issues with my Sky+ box, but didn't relate it to amount of recordings on the drive. I just replaced the existing drive (Maxtor I think) with a bigger Samsung drive, and haven't had any problem since.

Does turning off Instant Rewind alleviate the problem?
