Freesat Channels - Whats really out there?

I am just wondering am I missing anything in the posts, or just have not found the right sticky?

Are the main channels on freesat really just the BBC's, ITV's, Channel 4's, Film4, etc from 28.2.

I see brackets for dishes which allow 3-4 LNBs to be mounted to pickup 3-4 satellites. I also see mention of bigger dishes to pickup other satellites. I also see many of the experts in the Cable & Digital TV forums with various combo boxes/dishes/aerials/set-up.

Folks often mention links to what can be received from various satellites but obviously that usually doesn't include the programmes, instead just a channel/language.

I guess I am just trying to figure out, is there more really out there that the experts know about - or is it just a case the experts as in any area just like to dabble in all the latest and greatest stuff ?

Just wanted to put this out to see if I am missing anything. :o

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi a site called Lyngsat .com shows all Freesat Channels along with there Frequencies Symbol Rate s/r and there Polarity H/V.It also shows All satellites Adjacent To the Astra,s&Hotbird At 28.2&28.5(The home location for Freesat&Sky)If You were thinking of buying a dual or quad L N B.with a list of available Free to air&scrambled channels on them.Fitting dual or Quad L N B,s not really a job for a hobbyist,Alighnment must be perfect. As You mentioned Dish size and receiver type Very important as to what You will receive also.
If using a Sky box and the add channels menu in My humble opinion It is a waste of time upgrading the L N B as You can only add 50 channels and the process is cumborsome.
So a Good Free to Air(F.TA) Receiver is a must also.If going to spend money It is well worth trawling the net,Plenty of info available So as You wont end up being disapointed by Your purchase.
If all You want to know is What,s available on Freesat,Just search for Freesat home,It will Name ALL fta ch available at 28.5 degree,s east. The sky box with it,s 80cm dish will receive any not Already on Your epg.Just add them via Add Channels Menu.
Hope I understood Your Question correctly&have been of some help :)

"Freesat channels" are FTA satellite channels that have paid a fee to freesat for a position on the freesat epg with 7/8 days programme information available.
There are many FTA channels out there on many different satellites that can be received with a proper FTA receiver and dish setup that are not available on freesat, http://www.lyngsat.com/europe.html and http://en.kingofsat.net/satellites.php are good places to start.

I guess for many on here it is a hobby, my interest began back in 1986 with satellite supplements to What Video and Which Video magazines - pre internet days. Much easier now to get the information you need.

Using just a single LNB, with the dish pointed at the 28.2 E group, you can pick up channels on several satellites simultaneously: Eurobird 1 & Astra 2A/2B/2C/2D

In addition to the Freesat channels, there are others. Lyngsat provides a comprehensive list of them:

    http://www.lyngsat.com/28east.html

If you have children, there are the POP channels with cartoons etc

If you like 24hr news, there's Euronews, France24, CNN, Sky, BBC-News

If you like skinny women wearing mostly ludicrous clothes, there's Fashion TV

There are also numerous radio stations and music video stations, including one for opera!

What you you wont find are dear Rupert or his fees.

Thanks all who have responded !

I am aware of the Freesat channel listings, and the different satellites however what I was trying to establish is, is there other channels out there on these other satellites that are worth having ? This does not seem to be clear anywhere - perhaps the answer is therefore no ?

The biggest non-Freesat channel that is Free-To-Air is Sky News.

That the only non-Freesat channel I have added to my receiver.
