As much as I enjoy me alcoholic beverage as the next person, I tend to like something sweet once in awhile.

So with that in mind... WHY'S THERE NO ROOT BEER IN IRELAND !?

    :(

    Had to wiki it! ;)

"The soft drink version of root beer is generally made using extracts or flavored syrups diluted into carbonated water. It is not as widely popular as other soft drinks, such as cola, and constitutes only 3% of the U.S. soft drink market"

I became familiar with it through the A&W Restauraunt (US Company) while I was in Malaysia.

    tastes too much like liquorice.
..and I would never voluntarily consume liquorice; unless it was getting me drunk

    (like drinking carbonated non-alcoholic OUZO)

I had some real root beer in MA, stuff they grew up on and swore by. Tasted like muck though.

I think you can get organic root beer in some health food shops. Dunno if that'll do your craving or not, could be pish compared to the real stuff.

It tastes like carbonated Vicks Vaporub!

Disgusting stuff, made my mouth feel numb

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,629 ✭✭✭Adiboo

It grows on you. First time I had it, I hated the stuff. But now whenever I'm in Canada I stock up the fridge with a case of it.

As much as I love root beer and Mountain Dew, I'd really love to see grape soda being sold here. Gorgeous stuff indeed.

Alcoholic Dr. Pepper would complete me.

The Root Beer I recall, from A&W, does NOT taste like licorice or vaporub o.O

    GO 2 DROMAHAIR IN LEITRIM!!

Its not sold in Ireland cos it's called root "beer" and its non-alcoholic. It would p1ss too many people off if they bought it and, ironically, didnt get p1ssed. :pac:

It was sold here up until a few years ago I think, but they pulled it because it wasn't selling enough.

They sell ginger beer in Superquin, also saw root beer somewhere, can't remember where...

If you're around Ranelagh pop into Redmond's offie, they have a selection of 'quare' drinks.

Because it tastes like medicine and not the good tasting medicine like the purple Calpol but like the Orange flavoured Calpol you got because you were older :(

Ginger beer and rootbeer are completely different.

I never even realised there was no rootbeer in Ireland.. never looked for it, I guess. I only have it once in awhile back home anyway. Is there Dr. Pepper over here?

And is there seriously no grape soda?

Grape doesn't seem to be much of a hit over here. I miss it. It's like everything grape is replaced with black currant, which I find disgusting.. Like the purple Starburst back home is grape, but here it's black currant. Grape was my favourite :(

My order arrived today! It's unbelievable how far superior Welch's Grape is to anything being sold here.

    How much was the shipping?

I'm thinking of getting a tray each of DrPepper and Mountain Dew.
