i want my wedding invitations printed over a collage of a couple of photographs of myself and my partner as kids. i want the photos grey and the writing in black over the faded background.

basically i dont have photoshop but i was wondering does anyone out there know any printers that could do that or have you done something similar?

You copuld try it yourself in MS Word. Put the pictures on the page, then set them back as watermarks (select picture, right click and then format and go through the flipcards) and change them to greyscale. Then you can put your text over the pictures.

Keep tinkering around with the features and you will eventually get it the way you want. :D

The pictures will be set back on the page in a faded grey and the text will be written over them. If you could get your hands on a copy of MS Publisher, it would be great for this kind of stuff as well. :)

Don't bother trying to use MSWord. Download The Gimp, it's free, and is very similar to Photoshop. There are loads of tutorials around which will let you learn to do what you need to do.

word is of no use for images. Use that for the actual inside sheet though. For my invites I used the gimp to create a collage of photos that I then stuck to the front of the cards. If you feel you cant do that try using a site like photobox.(http://www.photobox.co.uk/)

For the invite sheet that goes in the middle i got some nice paper in easons and downloaded a load of fonts from the internet...then used the one i liked. :)

    good luck.

Theres a guy on boards ststc that runs www.360-dpi.com who might possibly do this for you. He is a photographer sho working with the photos wouldnt be a problem. I use him for printing any large pieces and would recommend him.

If he cant help you out try microsoft publisher for ease of use and print yourself or upload to a site such as mypix or photobox and print from there.
