HD SAT / MPEG4 DVB-T2 / PVR

Having got my aerial system sorted out finally I now find it frustrating that I have a HD satellite receiver and a DVD recorder with built in Freeview under the TV and the HD satellite receiver cannot be recorded from, (well, it can and is connected up to the DVD recorder, but I can't record HD stuff) and the Freeview can pick up the RTÉ tests but not decode them.

I doubt there will ever be a combined HD satellite and DVB-T2/MPEG4 terrestrial receiver coming out with PVR capabilities allowing recording of both sources at the same time... but if it ever did, God, I would buy it! :D:D

Of course there will be a combo dvb-t2 and dvb-s/dvb-s2 in time.

dvb-t2 products are not available yet anyhow (and are not relevant to Ireland - the UK are the only country who will be using this technology and then only for HD terrestrial broadcasts). Why would you want a product now for a ormat which the UK isnt even broadcasting in ? (by the way the Azbox HD apparently will allow for the purchase in the coming months of modular dvb-t2 tuner if you believe their press releases - this is addition to the standard the box comes in dvb-s)

There are plenty of Combo HD receivers out there at the moment that allow you record either DTT HD or HD Satelitte. I have 2 that do so. That you can only watch somethjing on the same transponder on some of these boxes is an inconvnience, but there are ways around this.

There are also boxes that have even more functionality - including wireless/Divx play etc but are more expensive.

Sticky at the top - DTT/SAT Combo Boxes List 2009 has more details of the boxes available.

Well, I was only looking to have it now so it would be ready for when the HD channels start on UK Freeview and it would allow me to watch the ROI channels in the meantime.

I can receive both UK and IRE DTT signals and would like them all in one box together with my satellite channels rather than seperate boxes for seperate channels and all these remotes lying around. If they were all on one EPG/channel list and all able to be recorded from then I'd be in hogs heaven. :p
