Well, now I can appreciate Bernard. Now, he has shown me that he has
real character and deserves his win and place as a genuine super bantam
on the world scene. A real tough fight and Bernard showed real class and character and guts to stick i there and eek out the win:

Few points on the actual fight:

Every rd I was edgy for Dunne; Cordoba was constantly threatening and landing the more shots. Dunne stuck it out and in the end it was
stamina that did Cordoba in, as Bernard himself said. The final shot was a peach and even had it NOT landed, Cordoba was Dunne:D for.

Dunne shipped a lot of punishment and this time he showed he could hang in and really survive. He was in bad trouble in rd 5.

One other thing I noticed was that Dunne was still a little cocky and was busy
admiring his work instead of capitalising on it. He could have done even more damage had he been ultra focused.

So, I want Dunne to avenge that Kiko loss. That will be the crowning
moment for him. He only has harder fights from
here on in. Maybe one voluntary and then it's
back to a top ten man.

Bernard will be a better man and fighter from this win

the crowning moment was winning a world title, which i, and many others, didn't think he'd accomplish. he;s only just won a world title and you are setting out further goals for him to achieve. let him and his supporters on here, who believed in him, revel in the moment.

I'd say f uck Kiko! In a sense he's avenged it by winning this title tonight. This was redemption from that knockdown.

Yes it was. As Matthew Macklin said in commentary it was the making of him.

Fair play to you Walsh, you are a man of your word.
I said a few months back when this fight was announced that you would try belittle Bernard's achievement no matter how he performed. And you said that you would reserve judgement till after the performance and call it how you saw it. You did, and you gave credit where its due. So fair play

i was there tonight and it was savage
i thought dunne would win - i saw it in his eyes at the start that he believed.
but I never thought he had a KO in him I thought on points he'd win.
not mind putting Cordoba down 4 time and getting up himself.

Seriously I though he was ****ed in round 5.

But he showed great heart and he is king.
I had a brilliant night and can't wait to watch it on tv

Dunnes a world champion in one of the most stacked divisions in boxing!!! Great fight. Dunne vs Kiko?? No chance, unless Dunne loses down the line or Kiko gets 2-3 wins over semi decent opposition. At the minute it would be a step backwards. Lets hope Dunne enjoys a lengthy reign and we get some more nights of action like this.

Fellas, I am a man of my word and I simply will always be brutally
honest in assessing ANYONE. Bernard showed me what I have wanted him to show me for so long. That was real survival and strength:

I don't want to take anything away from him because the man is a gent and a credit to all of us. I like him and always have.

Regarding the fight: We all knew that Cordoba was a fighter that was
suited to Dunne. Was I impressed with Cordoba. I have to be honest fellas, I want' overly impressed at all. He was quite wild and awkward and technically not very sound. I only saw him once and wasn't astounded. I did
say all along that Bernard had a chance, but I still thought
Dunne's lack of real strength and stamina and punch resistance would prove fatal.

It turned out that Ricardo lacked the stamina. He was gassed and Dunne himself said this. Ricardo wasn't amazing. Dunne did amazing considering
all that went before. I was damn edgy in every rd for Bernard. I had predicted
a 5th rd win and it almost came true, 20 more secs and I don't
think Bernard would have made it. He did and he hung in and did excellent.

I am nervous at the amount of shots Bernard took. He took a lot and was shaky throughout. I don't want to see Bernard hurt iN there, but against a puncher I think he will be hurt bad. I want him to relax, make easy defences and retire with his health. He's a genleman and I admire him

Last night, showed the true potential of Bernard dunne and has finally been rewarded for his commitment to the sport. An important point is Bernard is dodgy when going back,he must be in control and apply the pressure and move forward. If he does this I can see him have this belt fir a good while!
