    Hi all
If i go back to college this year i have to pay for tuition fees (i have previously dropped out of a course) does the maintenance grant pay for this?

Also if my grant application is successful when will I find out? I ask because I believe my tuition fees for my selected course are 6,800

    Cheers for the help
    :)

Nope, unfortunately the grant scheme at present doesn't cover what are classed as 'repeat years' - basically you would have to pay fees and you wouldn't get a grant for doing the same year of the same or a new course, unless you wait 5 years (second chance student).

But they will 'kick in' for your following years.

If you dropped out officially you should be ok - as in there's a form to fill out. If you registered in college (which sounds like you didn't do if you hadn't paid the fees!) then you should be grand. You can rop out of college after around a month into your course and retain the 'free fees'. Check this out with the Dept. of Education before you go to college (and indeed the college you were in before hand to check) before you go to the new college to save a headache then.

But yeah, assuming you're now eligible for a grant there's nothing stopping you getting it if you're eligible for 'free fees' as above.
