    Hi all,
I am looking for any information anyone might have on NEPS. How it works? Whats the procedure in getting your child asessed and what happens?

Have a look at the link above to see how NEPS works.

Have you spoken with your child's teacher about your concerns? They should be able to tell you if there's a chance of getting your child assessed through NEPS this school year (although this depends on how many children are on the waiting list in the school). You should be aware that there is a very limited amount of assessments available to schools every year, and it's related to the size of the school I think it's 1 assessment per 50 pupils per year. Unfortunately this means that children often miss out on assessments which they really should receive at an early age. Until the department puts more funding into this, there's absolutely nothing schools can do about it, it's very frustrating. If you and your child's teacher are very concerned, and your child doesn't get a NEPS assessment this year, you can go privately and claim back some of the money through the Med1 form. If this is the case, ask the teacher if they can recommend someone the school has used in the past, as we've had a lot of varying experiences with psychologists in our school.

Our school was entitled to 9 assessments last year, we got two. Another 9 this year, to date one... The NEPs psychologists are way way way overworked.

The teachers in my sons school noticed that he was way behind with regards his motor skills but was top of the class with regards his academic ability. The teacher referred him to NEPS for an assesment and he was then seen at the school by an educational psychologist.
Definitely talk to the child's teacher as a first step as they can be the ones who will put the whole process into motion for you!!!!
