World heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko is hoping to impress the American TV market with a successful defence of his WBC title against Cuban defector Juan Carlos Gomez on Saturday.

WBC champ Klitschko will have his fight screened live in the USA and hopes to revive interest in the heavyweight division that has hit the skids ever since Lennox Lewis retired.

Klitschko's younger brother Wladimir holds the WBO and IBF versions of the heavyweight title, and the pair hope to liven up the heavyweight division.

The 37-year-old Ukrainian faces a mandatory defence against Cuban Gomez, who is now based in Germany.

"I like Juan a lot. He's a real nice guy and a good buddy of mine," Klitschko said. "It's a real pity that I now have to beat him up."
    Sparring partner

Klitschko hopes a comprehensive victory over the dangerous former cruiserweight world champion, who used to spar with both brothers.
The Cuban calls himself 'The Black Panther', and he is confident he will put the man known as 'Dr Iron Fist' firmly in his place.

"I'll toy with 'Dr. Wimp' in such a way and I'll outbox him that there won't be two opinions about the outcome: 'The Black Panther' will be world champion again," Gomez said.

Klitschko was slated to face David Haye but it now seems that his brother Waldimir will go toe-to-toe with the British star in June.

As for Vital, he is scheduled to take on 40-year-old Russian Oleg Maskaev on account of a deal struck with the former soldier by the WBC when he was champion, but Klitschko is trying to get out of that commitment and has even been to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland.

The Ukrainian wants to face someone more attractive to a US audience, possibly unbeaten Los Angeles fighter Chris Arreola.

Klitschko weighed in 8.5 kg heavier than Gomez at the official weigh-in on Friday, and the Ukrainian is hoping to make the weight difference count in his favour.

Klitschko could even be on a collision course with Haye at a later date, should the fast-talking Briton defeat his younger brother in their eagerly-anticipated showdown.

Three rounds in and Gomez is surprisingly holding his own.

Dr. Iron Fist lives up to his name and busts open Gomez's right eye.

Yeah man but the Dunne fight aint on yet and Klitschko has his WBC title on the line. This will be over soon by the looks of it anyway. Gomez getting a good beating now.

EDIT: Klitschko docked a point. He puts Gomez down again for another standing eight count. Thats it, all over ref stops it after Gomez was not defending himself.
