MacBook Pro Problem

    Hey, major problem here.

My mac was running a bit slow this morning so I decided to restart it. It froze during the restart so I had to hold the power button and turn it off. Now when I try to turn it on all I get is a screen saying I need to restart. I've tried every variation on Apple's support and nothing is working. I don't have any of the discs that came with it. It's the last generation of MBP's.

Seriously don't know what's wrong or what to do, help!

You're going to have to get an OS X install disc. They are essential. I don't really know what to advise without one. It's a kernel panic. If you're lucky it's system software related but you'll need a install/restore disc to fix it. If you're unlucky it's hardware related. Have you installed any RAM lately? One might have become loose. Have you tried disconnecting everything (mice, external hds, etc) from the Mac? How far into the start-up process is it getting? Could the hard disk have failed? Try booting up in safe mode (hold shift while starting up).

Yeah it's a kernal panic, I can't even get it into safe mode tho. Installed ram months ago but might be worth a check.

It needs to be an install disc that came with the model of MBP you have, Tripper; it will say on the disc if it is for a MBP and the OS version on it. Stick it in upon booting up and hold down Command C and it should guide you along the way if it is a software issue.

I'd still be inclined to check the RAM to see if it's loose BTW

If it's a retail disc it should work as well. Holding d will bring up Apple Hardware Test (this is located on Disc 2 sometimes). If it can't even get that far then it's a hardware issue.

I reckon there's a good chance it's the RAM alright. Any time I've had a kernel panic the culprit was always loose or bad RAM. It's a pain in the arse checking it though. First you should take both chips out and re-seat them, test; if no joy, test with just one chip, then the other; if you get a good chip test it in both slots to make sure they are okay. It's a process of elimination. Make sure you are pushing the chips in fully with a click.

Checked the RAM, seemed fine but now it won't turn on. The light where the screen pop thing is just keeps flashing. I'm close to crying ot just fcuking the stupid piece of cnut apple **** out the window :(

Afaik the flashing light means the RAM isn't seated properly. You have to make sure the RAM goes in all the way. It must click into place. Don't use the leavers to do this.

Out of curiosity how did you work out that was the problem?

Are you sure, Tripper? I don't see how expod could cause a kernel panic at startup.

    Expod!! e.gif

That little App taking down OS X is pretty amazing, it must have serious issues!
