If your provisional has expired do you have to re-do the theory test or do you just get put onto a permit?

You'll get an application form automatically in the post for a permit, no test needed. Quicker to fill the form in and bring it to motor tax though, takes the extra couple of days with the posting during which you're not meant to drive.
