    Hi,

I am just making my invites at the mo. Should I ask for a response 2 weeks in advance ? or more?

    thanks!

I think 2-3 weeks is perfect. Less than that and its not enough time for you to make final arrangements with the hotel, more than that and it barely gives the guuests time to decide/make arrangements.

The general rule is to send invites 5-6 weeks before the wedding, so 3-4 weeks is plenty of time to decide if you are going to attend.

I don't think there is any point in sending out the invites earlier than 5-6 weeks - any earlier than that and people get it, know they have ages to reply and then forget! Unless its a wedding abroad or something. Also give an email address with the RSVP - makes it easier for people to reply.

And don't be surprised if half the guests don't RSVP -esp the evening guests! I've been told by friends that for their weddings at least half or so of their guests never RSVP'd and they had to guess numbers! Very unfair and very rude, IMO.

good luck, have a lovely day!

Got married there recently. Sent the invites 7 weeks before the date and requested them two weeks before the wedding. Got our invites printed up because with work, I didn't have time to do them. What I did do though was buy stiffened paper sheets (about 240 gms) in Eason's and printed up self adressed RSVP postcards, four to a page.

Stuck them in with the invites, as well as text number and old fashioned address. Got three texts back, 170 out of 185 of the RSVP cards I printed came back and 9 people went to the trouble of going to the shop and buying RSVP cards. Real winner and cost flip all. Stiffened paper was about 3 euro for fifty sheets.

I was going to go to the expense of putting stamps on the RSVP postcards I created, but am glad I didn't :D..don't think it would have ment getting more of them back.

Good luck with the day. :)
